You made a mistake with Zelda though, not that it matters for the conclusion, but the highest it sold before BotW is either 8.9m for a combined Twilight Princess or 7.6m for N64 OoT.

Anyway I’d say will break the records set by their predecessors, heck most already did! 3D Mario is a done deal and Mario Tennis is likely as well. Kirby has no chance though and Mario Kart will be extremely difficult. I don’t think it’ll make it but the fact that it’s not flat-out impossible is an achievement already. 2D Mario and Mario Party will be other tests. And Pokémon, but I doubt anything will ever get near the sales of the original games ever again.

if you are combining, ocarina of time got a 3ds port that sold over 5 milions so Ocarina of time combined is at over 12 millions sold.

edit: breath of the wild might past that lifetime but it hasn't yet

Actually, if you combine both versions of BotW it's at ~11m. So it will definitely surpass Ocarina of Time combined, and it will happen this year... probably even on Switch itself, which is at 9.3m at the moment.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

That’s different for obvious reasons, but it’s a discussion that’s already been going on in another thread recently so there’s no need to repeat that here.

Only Switch version of Zelda BotW will pass combined Zelda OoT numbers this year.

That's not a valid comparison.  Twilight Princess gets combined because they are two versions of the same release, they came out simultaneously.  Ocarina of Time 3D is a remaster released well over a decade later.

Very nice list, thank you! I'm interested in Nintendo's performance during the holiday quarter: Software sales so far have been phenomenal but hardware sales this year have "only" been good - but the first half of the year has had a certain lack of games. If Nintendo can hit their FY targets this will be great news for software sales over the long run: Software on the Wii and DS sold crazy numbers for the whole generation. If that happens again with the Switch (and great hardware sales are necessary for this) games like Zelda and Mario could hit 20m units lifetime.

Updated it with last quarter numbers. Sorry for the delay, I completely forgot to update it. xD

Anyway, Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Tennis Aces are set to become the top sellers of their respective franchises in the next update, which will take place in late January. Btw, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reached a combined total of 20m+ units. I can honestly see it surpassing Mario Kart Wii if Nintendo doesn't launch Mario Kart 9 until Switch 2 is out.

Coming up next: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate featuring in the comparison.

wow! I wonder if NSBU for switch will perform well, I expect something like 10M. I can see animal crossing reaching those 12M (it will all depend on japans sales tho), mario kart 8 deluxe with kind of 20 M and the new pokemon around 16 M too. I think the problem with pokemon is that they give us a new game every year so it might be difficult for new ones to reach numbers like 20M, for example Sun/Moon couldve top that easily without ultramoon / ultrasoon... I think Smash will beat wiis numbers too
