Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A look at the Switch's library so far...

So many games announced today, i'm overwhelmed

Around the Network

The Switch library still fails to impress me. The only Switch titles I'm very interested in are Zelda and Mario Odyssey; but since I already played Zelda on the WiiU, only Mario Odyssey remains. And since there's also no other Switch game being announced so far that I'm very interested in, I'm unlikely to buy a Switch anytime soon.

i not once mentioned taste in games. I never once said the list i presented was bad or good.  i think i was pretty clear with my counterpoint.  If your still not getting my point-  it's about options, or lack there of.

The switch is pretty cool, but I'm not going to sing its praises this year. Where's the Switch’s god of war? Spiderman? Far Cry 5? Assassin Creed Odyssey? Monster Hunter Worlds? Red Dead 2? Battlefield V? Shadow of the Tomb Raider? Fallout 76? Darksiders3?

Thank God no one has to choose, eh? I'll be playing the PS4 games I want to and the Switch games I want to. A great line-up on PS4 doesn't make the Switch line-up better or worse.

I think you misunderstood my point.  I'm not saying that the switch needs these particular games.  I'm comparing the line-ups to illustrate the large amount of options on another system, not to illustrate a superior line-up, but to illustrate the missed potential of the switch lineup.  The possibility of what the switch could offer, but is not currently offering.  The games lack scope, and nintendo's original campain was being able to take console games on the go. I feel, for the most part, this year has really been about buying handheld games and paying console prices.

On a side note, in case it interests you, i'm only able to play portable games with or without a pc monitor. Meaning my choices are a vita, switch, 3ds, or pstv. i don't play games at home anymore.  Only at work on a 1 hour break.  Consoles are typically too big for this purpose.  Unless i can find a way to get my wii to use an hdmi.

Fire Emblem Warriors and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate are both 3DS ports. I hate to say that about Generations Ultimate, but after playing the demo for a couple hours, I realized that it's a barebones port.

Here's a list of the main games that I cared about in 2017 and have my interest in 2018...

2017

 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Zelda: BotW
Super Mario Odyssey
Splatoon 2

2018

Octopath Traveler
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Torna: The Golden Country (its a standalone title, not DLC)
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (If review scores hold up. I'm on the fence with this one.)
Smash Ultimate
Poke'mon Let's Go (only if it gets at least in the mid to high 80's for review scores)

2017 had 5 games all exclusives that I was chomping at the bit to play.

2018 only really has three exclusives that I know I'll play no matter what. Then it has a multiplatform game that I know I'll play (Valkyria), a 3DS port that I might play, and a Poke'mon spinoff that will either be great, or a travesty catering directly to children and casuals.

Edit: 2019 is already looking pretty good with a mainline Poke'mon, Daemon X Machina, and Fire Emblem. If Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 can launch in that year, then 2019 will be perfect.

Word. I'm also hoping 2019 is as good as it sounds.  I'm pretty pumped for prime 4 and bayo.  I'm hoping there will be 1 more big game that i'll be into.  Not so sure fire emblem will be for me.  Also hoping metroid will come out since i don't think technically it has a release window.

Wait, I thought the Switch version and the N3DS version launched simultaneously? So why is the Switch version the port and not the other way around? And why does this even matter, anyway? #confused

My mistake. They did launch at the same time. So not a port.

There are too many games for me. I still have to finish Oceanhorn, Octopath and Hollow Knight, play Okami HD and to buy Salt and Sanctuary, DS Remake and maybe Diablo III.
