i dont think that sega will ever get the message about the superior sonic game. they seem dense at the top.

Most 3d sonic games or most sonic games including the 2d stuff?

Have you played through Generations on either the X360 or 3DS? they're great games and have a fine mix of 2d and 3d sonic action, possibly some of my favourite 3d Sonic gaming.

yup i have nearly every sonic game. Generations was great and so was Colors

Heard really good things about Colors but it's still on my backlog of shame, would you say it's on par with Generations? Or better/worse?

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

I wonder how much Sonic 3 would've scored with the & knuckles.

Though Sonic Mania plus surely rivals it. My only "complaint" is in the stage selection. Sonic 3 and knuckles was perfect in that regard.

Would have reviewed higher for sure, the game doesn't feel complete without the "& Knuckles" expansion. You also have to take into account that critics were more critical back in those days as they used the full grading scale, nowadays seems like most critics only use half the scale, a 50-60 is bad, 70-80 is meh, 80-90 is good, 90 to 100 is amazing, anything below a 50 is pretty much unheard of from some of these devs unless the game is totally broken. Back in the early 90's though game critics used the full scale like movie critics do, so a 91 back then is more like a 95 today.

Sega will obviously respond with this message we are giving them by giving us more 3D Sonic and more friends.

I'd be okay with it if they finally gave us Sonic Adventure 3.

That said, this is great news.

Sigh... saying things like that doesn't help anyone. Sonic's friends have never been the problem. The problem is they have failed to created competent gameplay in 3D. Though i still think Sonic Adventure 2 got it right. If only they made a full game with that gameplay and just like the 2D games, the friends play the same with a special "power" that makes them slightly different. I'm hopeful Sonic team can learn from the sucess of Mania, but we'll see.

I will give Sonic Mania a try, it seems fun and I really enjoyed the only Sonic game I've played so far (Sonic Generations).

The Sonic Adventure games have aged terribly though. Almost as badly as Oblivion has aged.

Same, number two is a great game.

Didn't know that Adventure 2 was ranked so high. Makes you wonder why Sega hasn't tried to do a real sequel to it. It could work, I just don't know if sega is talented enough anymore to make a good Sonic Adventure as most of the adventure staff has left. I guess we'll continue to get mediocre 3D titles, and maybe a new Sonic Mania.

Wow, did you collect all the pre-Metacritic review data manually? Way to go man, always wanted to know how the older games fared. Nice to see Mania got the respect it deserved right alongside the classics.
