Imo this is a way bigger issue then crossplay. Extremely anti consumer from ms.

i agree

dont understand why there are no complaints about needing gold to play a f2p game. seems to me more anti consumer than not allowing crossplay at all.

Sony are doing themselves no favors holding Fortnite accounts hostage.

They're not the only anti-consumer fish in the pond but they've made themselves the biggest anti-consumer fish in the pond.

Honestly with everyone else but Sony being on board, Sony's side seems like the bigger issue, and other devs are talking about it. Both are shitty, but Sony being the last player in crossplay is becoming more of an issue by the day.

i rather have that my f2p game is actually f2p and not f2p after spending money. its a stupid anti consumer practice making people pay for something that is f2p.

also on the everyone else is on board part. here is a article wich points out that a large group of people are indifferent or dont want/need crossplay

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-04-12-do-gamers-really-care-about-cross-platform-play

it seems that cross-platform play adds little value to gamers' purchasing decisions with 58 percent being "Indifferent" to it, eight percent of all respondents felt "Fairly Negative" or  "Very Negative" about the push for cross-platform play from the games industry while 34 percent saw it as a positive trend

Technically paying to play online is anti consumer, let alone regarding what comes with it as "free", when in reality you paid to gain access to said "free" games.

I honestly don't care what one article thinks it states. Developers, studios and other people around the world cite crossplay as being valuable than a mere few F2P games.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

So here's what I've gathered:
-Sony doesn't allow cross play with any other platform except PC sometimes.
-If you make a Fortnight account, your purchases are stuck on PS4 but the other platforms allow you to switch back and forth, leveling up, keeping your purchases, etc.
-Microsoft won't let you play F2P games online without a subscription. PS4 does allow you to use their online service for F2P games.

A.)Either Microsoft is wrong for requiring the subscription or Sony is really generous.
B.)Either Sony is (are?) being selfish by not allowing people to keep their content or Microsoft/Nintendo/PC are being generous with this one particular game.
C.) Sony is being selfish by not allowing people to play popular games like Rocket League and Fortnight with gamers of other platforms.

We have a couple of different issues here. People seem to be using the logic that "It's okay because it doesn't effect me and my enjoyment" or "It's okay if my company does something wrong because this other company does something entirely different that is also wrong."

Do I have this right?

its like sony shit the bed and here the defenders. lol

so cute.

there wil be cross play by the end of the year.

We all have our companies that we like. It's human nature.

I like Microsoft and I'll defend Kinect to this day as something I enjoy on my Xbox One.
I like Nintendo and if anyone asks me, the Wii U is a great console and the Switch is powerful enough.
I like Sony and I don't mind plugging in a USB to charge my controller because of the abysmal battery life. I'll defend the Vita until my last breath.

And you know what? I'm part of the problem. If your company does something wrong, it's your obligation to complain about it. You aren't doing your fellow gamers any favors by making excuses. Yes, everything I listed above is something I truly believe but, for someone else, that could be a point of concern! If someone says "I don't like Kinect. I shouldn't have to pay for it." I shouldn't be trying to convince them how great Kinect is. That's hurting them and that's hurting Microsoft. If someone feels that the Switch isn't powerful enough, I shouldn't be trying to convince them that everything is fine because I don't care about power. My concerns are not exactly THEIR concerns. Still, their concerns should not just be dismissed.

People have an issue with Sony's handling of cross play and their accounts with a multi-platform game. Let them complain. Let them be heard and let Sony fix it. It'll only make the brand better. Just a year ago you'd have people saying that they didn't want external HDD support for the PS4 even though the Xbox One and Wii U offered it. They'd say "It'll allow for piracy!" or "It'll ruin the sleak design of the console" or "I can just delete my games when I'm not playing them."

What the fuck?

Think about other people and their issues. Quit blindly following a single company and acting as their unpaid Public Relations representative. If gamers are unhappy and companies listen, it's better for everyone.

Microsoft and Nintendo are by no means perfect but I think the Fortnite debacle has really pissed some off and Sony is the one getting hit the hardest. Rightfully so, I'm not fond of it either to say the least...

Sony allows crossplay with PC and mobile

Your Fortnite vbucks on PS4 can be used on PC/mobile but not X1/Switch.

X1/Switch can be used on PC/mobile/eachother, but not PS4 (which is Sony's fault)

Sony is shitty for not allowing crossplay, but MS gain nothing from it next gen as Nintendo will no longer be a factor.

MS blocks F2P games behind XBL Gold, which will always be a disadvantage until they drop the practice.

One is not more or less shitty than the other.  One simply will have little to no impact while the other still has you paying for F2P games.

Lets assume like 5% of players would actually make use of cross play, on the PS4 side.
I really doubt the number is much higher than that.

Sure that ll be "millions" of players.
The same is true for F2P being locked behinde a paywall on the XB1 though.
Theres probably a good ~40% or so, out of those 39m Xbox Owners that dont have access to fortnite at all, because MS isnt allowing them it.

Why dont you hear epic bitch about MS being hurting their sales or MAU numbers by locking players out?
This crossplay thing is overblown.

"I find it funny how F2P being locked is somehow a bigger issue than millions of plaeyrs being able to play with one another."

You really dont think its a bigger deal? Its hurting all the xbox owners that bought a xbox, but cant afford to pay the subscription, but want to play Fortnite and such games.
Its also hurting the devs that make fornite, their market reach is smaller because of MS chooseing this.
That number is probably muuuuuuuuch bigger than the PS4 owners that wish they had crossplay with xb/switch.

I’m not going to bother reading the 100+ replies, but if crossplay were as irrelevant as OP makes it out to be, Sony wouldn’t be blocking it. It’s just that simple.

Also regarding blocking out free play versus requiring gold, they’re both shitty, but then again Sony has PS+ required for multiplayer, so if you’re saying Microsoft has this real crappy anti-consumer policy, you’re also saying Sony has a real crappy anti-consumer policy with PS+, MS just takes it one step further.

Of course, I see people are comparing Gold for F2P titles to Sony hijacking Fortnite accounts.... they aren’t comparable. One is a questionable policy, the other is pure corporate greed to prevent you from spending money outside of PSN.

Nah it's not overblown, otherwise you're calling millions of players, devs and 2 of the big 3 as making it "overblown". Face it, this recent F2P lock issue is a counter tactics to the issue everyone has with Sony, and it's quite frankly weak and not likely to work let alone "even" things out.
