Forums - Sony Discussion - Does God of War's Hype Exceed Uncharted 4's?

God of War vs Uncharted 4

God of War 33 57.89%

Uncharted 4 24 42.11%

Total:57

I feel like there is a lot of recency bias here......I remember there being way more hype for Uncharted 4 back in 2016.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Not even close. Uncharted was hyped since day one (PS4’s launch) and was expected to be this generation’s first looker. It also got universal praise. GoW on the other hand received mixed feelings and is coming much later in the cycle.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

From?

I'm not saying people are doing it on purpose. Its just cause people have a lot of hype for GOW right now, so they would just naturally vote for GOW over Uncharted.

I feel like this question is best asked a few months later, when the dust has settled down.

Couldn't it just be a lack of other titles getting people excited? We're in the lead up to E3, a typically slow time for announcements and hype in general. Also, I'm sure the GoW crowd is getting pumped up for what will be an epic battle between it and Nintendo Labo. Haha...I kid...mostly.

I'm not talking about reviews/sales, rather, what precedes the launch.

I'm talking about pre-release hype as well. Not reviews or sales.

It’s worrying me that I’ve heard 2 different reviewers mention they’ve played GoW and will be talking about it Thursday, but they didn’t comment on whether it was good or not. Either reviewers are allowed to say nothing—whether bad OR good—or GoW is a bit of a disappointment.

Someone look up sales at launch for U4 and GoW3. I'm too lazy.

I think the fairer comparison is UC3 to GoW 3 and it's a pretty close race 1.34m for UC3 and 1.22m for GoW3. UC4 crushed both with 2.17m first week. Also worth nothing that UC3 went on to sell 6.84m to GoW3's 4.81m.

Literally every reviewer I've seen mention that they're playing or have played God of War has said that they're allowed to say that they've been playing the game but that's it.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Correct, reviewers are not allowed to say if the game is good or not until after the embargo date.

Regarding the hype level, I think it'd mostly depend on the reviews from this point forward.

If this game reviews very highly (~95 overall), then I am sure the week leading to its launch will generate hype far exceeding Uncharted 4's pre-launch hype level.

It seemed to me that Uncharted 4 was a lot more hyped than God of War is.
