Police in Northern California say they are responding to an incident involving an "active shooter" at YouTube headquarters.

Gunshots were reported at the company's campus in San Bruno, south of San Francisco.

Ambulances are at the scene and authorities have warned the public to stay out of the area.

Google, which owns YouTube, has said it is investigating a possible "gunfire incident".

Unconfirmed reports from local media say the shooter is a woman.

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital has said it is treating patients from the incident. No details were provided on their condition.

Some 1,700 people work at the YouTube HQ. Google said it was "coordinating with authorities" and would provide information as it becomes available.

YouTube product manager Todd Sherman tweeted that people fled the building in panic.

Images broadcast on local TV stations showed employees leaving with their hands raised. Other footage appeared to show evacuees forming a queue before being individually frisked by police.

I wonder what the motive for that would be.

Damn, I hope there aren't any fatalities. It sucks that even the tech companies aren't safe from this kind of shit.

Best case those injured just ran away and hurt themself while doing it. NBC reports that it's a woman and that she has been taken down.

Of course nothing is going to happen regarding gun control, same stuff will continue to happen. You'd have to wonder what beef she had with Youtube, going to be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I was surprised to hear it was a female shooter... but she only killed one person.

Great to hear no one was killed though from the youtube offices, they'll probably up security there after this but good that people were able to get away from this shooter and had the ability to flee and not end up cornered, so we can presume that the building was built well in terms of fire code so each room would need 2 exits.

Scary story but end results were not bad, no loss of life is a fantastic outcome there.

And the UK has surpased New York just recently in murders due to a rising knife problem.

Better start banning knives.

Well, it makes the motive harder, but it means that there is a chance that nobody else that she shot will end up dying.
