Pretty disappointing. Hopefully they can turn this into a Rainbow Six: Siege scenario and continuously add to the game and turn it into a success like it. They did say they were hoping this game would last 10 years so they better have a lot of things planned for it and fast.

Fandom just gave it a 60
"Just be aware going into this one that after a few outings, you’ve pretty much seen what Rare’s pirate epic has to offer. Sea of Thieves is a “make your own fun” game, but its difficult not to feel like the developers could’ve made a little more fun for you. Sail, stare at the water, and live the life of a corsair — ultimately, its longevity will come down to you and your crew."

with 4 reviews it officially has a score now, sitting at 67

Rare has really went off the deep end this time ...

"Underwhelming" is how I would describe their performance so far this generation and I think it's time that they meet the same fate as once Lionhead Studios did. Shutting the doors should be Microsoft's priority at this point when the studio is left festering to rot due to poor management ...

Hopefully, Skull and Bones turns out to be the better pirate themed game since SoT was never competitive in what it offered despite the hopes of some ...

Erm no thanks, I would love to see more from Rare. And as much as you hate the game, others actually love it. Its unique and something new. I much rather more risks like SoTs than the same old sequels we get every year.

Why would you support shutting down a studio?

I don't necessarily agree with that."Finish" is also subjective, especially in online games.

Chances are if the reviewer forced himself to finish the game despite being bored to death the final verdict might be even worse.

For games like SoT, Destiny and the Division the end game is very important for the longevity of the game so I think it's important that the reviewer reaches the end game.

Not all reviews are the same and they should never be. It depends on the reviewer and his audience. Reviews are public services for consumers and if the reviewer wants to highlight that the slog to the endgame just isn't worth it, then that's useful. There are plenty of other reviewers out there for people who are into this kind of game and want to know what the endgame looks like. Not all reviews should be made by people who are fan of the genre for fans of the genre.

You don't see car salesmen forcing their customers to drive a few hundred miles more because only then it gets good when they step out of the car and already have enough.

Ouch... It’s lower than anyone predicted.

Lower than No Mans Sky actually.

his philosophy is that "the developers are only as good as their last release"(paraphrasing). Its obviously a very flawed philosophy because if studios were shut down after one bad outing, so many great games we know and love wouldn't exist.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Rare has been profitable nearly every year while LH was bleeding money. I don't see them closing anytime soon

SoT already surpassed my expectations with over 1m players, I think MS will be happy with it's performance.
