Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Kirby Star Allies is fastest selling Kirby game in UK chart history

It seems that Kirby will be quite strong on Switch.

Around the Network

As I have been saying for some time:Every long standing Nintendo franchise will sell better on the Switch.

Its nice that Kirby is getting some love.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Good job you little fat pink monster!

Nice to hear. Let’s see what it does in Japan this wednesday.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I can't wait for Fire Emblem and Pokemon to come out, with all these Nintendo games setting records I can only assume the same will happen for Fire Emblem and especially Pokemon.

Looks like Kirby Star Allies is not a flop after all...

People were saying it was gonna flop?

Good start, wonder what the actual numbers are though

I believe in this too (as long as there is exposure). It’s not only Mario and Zelda that are setting records either, Splatoon 2 already outsold Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is probably the best selling in the series already. Even the ports are impressive (MK8D and Pokkén are close to outsell the originals).

I think the same will follow with Kirby and Mario Tennis, which is the next new long standing IP release.

Sun and Moon sales did not get "dragged down" by Japan and even if it did I'm talking about sales headlines pertaining to specific countries in relation to total sales and speed of sales .. not just total lifetime sales. I also was iffy about using X and Y for a number of reasons anyways which is why I wrote that in such a way.

Most of these counter points are just a way of trying to legitimize how impressive this is without addressing what I'm actually saying. Also none of it proves i'm "wrong" because I never said or meant to say Switch isn't a contributing factor...

Sun and Moon didn’t perform as well as other Pokémon games in japan. X&Y were the first global release.

And you’re forgetting the difference in install base between the DS and 3DS. The 3ds games had a much bigger attachrate.

3ds games sold more on a smaller install signalling growth in the franchise.

Pokémon switch will be a monster because the switch itself has higher software attchrate than any Nintendo console plus Pokémon as a franchise is continuing to grow on top of the fact that this is the first console hd Pokémon game. A lot of people have been asking for this since forever.

.........You really do not need to reply to me if you're just going to restate the same things. Again, none of this refutes what I'm saying. I am not saying :

-The Switch is not a contributing factor to franchise growth

-That the sales on a smaller install base aren't impressive

What I AM saying is that an article detailing something being the fastest selling thing ever in a franchise is NOT proof that it's automatically going to have "monster" sales in comparison to past games in the franchise. We have a track record proving this, pretty consistently. Still, I do think that Pokemon Switch will sell incredibly well. Probably around 18 million which is 2-3 million above average Pokemon. That could indeed be considered a "monster", I'm just not going to call it that the moment an article comes out about how fast it is selling ... (and also I believe that if Sun/Moon wasn't replaced by Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon ... they probably would have came close to the 17M + barrier anyways, possibly even reaching 18M)

Great news, but I'm a bit skeptical on sales regardless of the milestone. UK isn't a great gauge for Nintendo software sales.
