Don't be obtuse, you don't need to be #1 to burn down the world.

The OP asked if it was closer than North Korea or the United States, if I were to rank them it'd be this:

1. United States

2. Russia

3. North Korea

At the power level of the USA, Russia, and some others, which one is "more powerful" has little to do with "likelihood of causing a massive war".  Did you really need me to tell you that?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

The US  is involved much more with world affairs than Russia is too, bombing numerous countries and having military bases all over the world.

True, the U.S. does conduct more worldwide activity.  I suppose "being involved in world affairs" does inherently somewhat increase the odds of starting a massive war.  But what in particular do you see as being especially risky of that specific consequence?  Even if the U.S. is in "little wars", what about them do you see as more likely to cause a "big war" as compared to Russia annexing part of the Ukraine, assassinating dissidents in other countries, trying to destabilize regional adversaries, and allegedly things like the NotPetya cyberattack that reportedly did 80% of its damage in the Ukraine but also had worldwide effects?

Are you counting Syria when you talk about how much more "bombing other countries" the U.S. is doing than Russia?

It's risky because you make a lot of enemies when you're such an overreaching power. Their economy is also many times larger than Russia so the destabilization of the economy will have much more of a ripple effect than Russia's economy would. Yes, I'm counting Syria, obviously Russia bombs too but not to the extent that the US does.

To be clear, you are saying that part of the reason the U.S. is likely to cause a massive war is that if its economy crashes then other countries will crash with it, potentially causing the war not because of anything the U.S. specifically did but just because of the instability that comes with economic troubles.  Right?

I think most of the enemies you're talking about aren't the sort that are likely to trigger a "massive war".

I can't easily find a comparison of the current level of U.S. vs. Russian involvement in Syria.  My impression was Russia was getting more into it lately, but I can't say this with high confidence.  I'd be interested to know what you're basing your claim on.  But if you mean that even if Russia is doing in more, their Syria + rest of world is less than our Syria + rest of world, I'd have to ... say it depends on what you're counting.  America hasn't been doing anything equivalent to their "open secret" involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, not to mention Crimea.  The stuff America ADMITS TO is probably more than what Russia admits to.  And it's over a wider geographic area.

Russia is just a leftwing boogeyman. I realize that's not a popular thing to say on here on this site. But that's the way I see it.

I also concur with Final Fan, Russia wont start WW3 or a massive war, if anything it will be us, the united states, who instigates the start of it

It's not a popular thing to say because it's about the dumbest thing I've heard.

No one is close to any massive war.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Nope, they won't, I don't see a country capable of that now but USA has those powerful people who might start something like that

Russia is a convenient target for the West, struggling governments need to focus the populations mind away from domestic issues
