It's funny that people thought the week 1 ps4 boost would be only 70-80k. Blew expectations out of the water.

I expected is will do over 100k week 1, look like i was wrong

It was over 100k first week, should do a nice 60k next week as well. Probably be the last week before the switch takes the number one spot back.

No, you were correct since it did 140k week 1, which is over 100k.

EDIT: Well this is now redundant, and I don't really see a way to delete posts. Hmmmm.

Hardware Sales
PS4
DQXI
W1 93,954
W2 52,819
W3 38,015
W4 39,970
W5 26,335

MHW
W1 140,432
W2 109,286
W3 70,172

Seems that exclusivity mattered.

DQXI, if not released on 3ds too, could push ps4 at same level as mhw

if the PS4 is supply constrained this week, we should more great numbers for next week. MHW is doing wonders for the console.

Don't worry. We were all wrong!

That's very strange. In the whole 2017, Nintendo was delivering 75K Switch in average in Japan, and a lot more during the end of year season when production was reinforced. Why would they slow down manufacturing now?

There are Switches for sale on Amazon.jp right now, btw.

You're right re: the 75k/week figure. I mean, it's not hard to divide 3.12 million by 40 weeks. However, only March, October, November, and December managed to break that 75k figure, iirc

The problem with your reasoning here is that Nintendo appears to prefer using hardware restocks to encourage better sales for games at launch. Which means that - technically - artificial scarcity is at play here.

It's definitely a possibility. Bayonetta and Kirby week should tell us.

The latest Japanese hardware sales from Media Create are as follows:

PlayStation 4: 71.306 units

And here are the software charts:

1. [PS4] Monster Hunter World – 159,613 / 1,750,969
2. [PS4] Dynasty Warriors 9 – 117,495 / NEW
3. [PS4] Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet – 75,623 / NEW
5. [PS4] Shadow of the Colossus – 21,900 / NEW
8. [PS4] Dragon Ball FighterZ – 14,237 / 82,968
11. [PS4] Dragon’s Crown Pro – 11,691 / NEW

Every week great new PS4-Games for the player worldwide, awesome! Strong MHWorld and PS4 Hardware Sales Figures. With digital more than 2,2 million units maybe for MHW in japan ?! The next is: Secret of Mana. My feeling tells me that Red Dead Redemption 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3 are sold very heavily in Japan. For the month of March I wish Ni No Kuni 2 all the best - it will not be easy with so many new games.

Maybe the Switch has already peaked in Japan, who knows.

I mean, even the Wii did peak there on its first full year, and I suspect the same happened to the GC and the N64 (for the N64, I'm sure it did happen in the US at least).

How is it a sign that the system has peaked? The Switch is still supply constrained. If you track Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera, or Amazon JP you see that Nintendo makes weekly shipments that typically sell out within a few days. If anything, as of right now anyways, it shows that Nintendo has not even caught up with demand yet in Japan. That is not a sign that a system has or is close to peaking. We will get a sign of what the system's baseline looks like once there is a steady supply in Japan. Of course, I am not dismissing the idea that it might peak this year (it all depends on its momentum and if Nintendo can maintain it), but there is just no sufficient evidence right now (we still don't even have a stable baseline based on demand).

Switch definitely hasn't peaked yet, not when Pokemon still hasn't been released.

Switch games occupying half of the chart surprised me. I did some research to find out how long it's been this way.

Here's a graph showing how many games were charting in the Famitsu top 30, by console:

Switch had ~5 games charting every week until September. Then the number of games charting each week began to snowball because of all the evergreens amassing on the system (MH, Dragon Ball, Pokken, FIFA, Mario,...), also the holidays caused increases in all Nintendo titles.

But even though the holidays are over, Switch hit 15 games last week which was the same amount it had during New Year's Eve. This week it's 14 games, none of which are new releases by the way. This appears to be the new normal.

Another proof that Switch is dominating Japan.
