Forums - Gaming Discussion - Report: Disney unhappy with EA, considering dropping the Star Wars exclusivity deal early, Activision/Ubisoft have been contacted already

Give it to Activision.

Ufff, I don't know which one of these two would be better for the Star Wars series. Why does Disney think that leaving the IP to a single company instead of licensing games individually is a good idea?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I personally really like Ubisoft, so I’d be happy if they developed the Star Wars games.

lol Activision or Ubisoft. Disney not in touch with the industry I see.

Makes sense. As Star Wars roadmap gets bigger, it'll make more sense to diversify the brand from just EA who have shown that they are not good at making a decent licensed game. A better solution would be for LucasArts to start developing and publishing their own games again.

Actually, it doesn't say that they are offering exclusivity to either, just that they have reached out to both about developing Star Wars games. Hopefully that means that Disney will be smart and license it out on a game by game basis.

Yes, but they still did that with EA first, why did they do that then?

I'm guessing EA gave them a great offer for exclusivity. They tend to do that.

Sure they are.

EA, Activision & Ubisoft are the big 3 when it comes to 3rd party publishers, the have a massive amount of success when it comes to making AAA mainstream games.

These are the type of publishers that Disney wants making Star Wars games, the kind that can pump out 10+ million sellers on a consistent basis.
