We could say the same for just about any game, except it won't stop people on here or anywhere else, in asking for a port of a game to their system of choice.

There is always someone who says they'll wait for a PS4/X1/PC/Switch version. Always is, always will be.

Yeah.  Still waiting for Uncharted on my Switch.  I don't get what is taking Sony so long.

They are busy porting the Halo collection and Sillent Hills to the Switch first.

Silly me, I forgot that Ninty somehow now owns the Beyonetta IP in it's entirety, and designed it from the ground up since the first game...

Still doesn't stop the point being reversed from what I said before.

Wait.  Do you actually think there is a possibility that Bayo 2 and 3 will come to Sony or MS consoles at some point?

I'm talking about the brand mate, not the code for 1-2, the brand itself.

Anything not Bayo 1 or 2 is up to Sega and Sega alone at this time.

Speculating any of it though is pointless right now.

That said, you responded to someone directly talking about Bayo 1 and 2, not the brand and you specifically said "port".

You mean "not Bayo 2-3".

Sega owns the brand, and as such it remains theirs to do with what they will, including making deals with other publishers.

True, I meant 2 and 3.

But Sega does not have rights to decide what happens with either game.  Only Bayo 1 and whatever comes after Bayo 4 provided Nintendo doesn't have a first rights to publish option in their contracts with Sega.

YEah, they don't own the code of 2-3, but I was talking about the brand in total. They have 1, they can make any other deal with anyone else for 4 and spinoffs.

First rights, I'm not really sure Ninty has paid up front for first rights for far ahead Bayo titles.

That said, I would love for the other two, if not more publishers seeking to make some Bayo deals with Sega, as it's clear that there is an interest in the brand.

Well, at this point, Nintendo has this franchise pretty well tied to their brand. It would be dumb of them to just let it go easily. Bayonetta games are always critical successes that bring a ton of attention to the platform they're in, and they are not the most expensive games out there. I'm sure Nintendo doesn't mind to keep the funding going for a long time, despite the fact these games don't sell that well.

Nintendo sharing the copyright for Bayonetta 2 and 3 with Sega means that Nintendo has the final say over which platforms the games can appear on.

Why is it that Nintendo gets the final say over Sega if the copyright is shared?

they. payed. for. it

That is the reason they have shared copyright, not the reason why their decisions overrule Sega's. But Rol has already explained it requires unanimous decisions for actions to take place.

We say "tied", but we still haven't seen Sega handing over the entirety of the Bayo brand rights over. Only the code for 2-3 which were funded by Nintendo, but not 1 or future titles.

Correct, it's not clear and we don't know.  I'd rather not speculate too much one way or the other but given that Nintendo funded 2 and 3, put her in Smash and released an Amiibo of her, they have a vested interest in the brand and I cannot imagine them financing that much, helping build the brand itself and then letting it all go.

I also doubt Sega wants to rework a deal elsewhere when they know Nintendo is willing.  Why toss away guaranteed financing for speculation?  I mean Sega could and Nintendo may not have a first rights to publish future titles clause but at this point, no one should be expecting 2, 3 or future titles to appear anywhere else but a Nintendo console.

We've seen other brands being heavily invested in the past, with them being dropped and then picked up against (like Sony has with Crash and Spyro, despite Acti owning both brands). Sony and MS both see that people are wanting Bayonetta, and they have been buying 1 on current gen systems (as well as on PC), so it's not an impossibility to say that neither one of them will not make a deal with Sega in the future.

I doubt we'll see 2-3 going anywhere at all besides Ninty systems, but the future has not been set in stone and defined for future titles and spinoffs.

I can expect future titles to go anywhere, since we've seen it happening with other brands before, as well as people's attention building over the years (and people openly asking for a port to their system of choice, which happens with a massive plethora of games out there these days).

Again, the franchise is nowadays pretty tied to the Nintendo brand, and as long as Nintendo thinks that's a good thing, they'll keep funding the series. It's not a big spending and Nintendo gets a lot of attention for it. Sega is obviously fine with that, considering it's not a series that sells millions over millions, it's pretty niche, so having someone else deal with the risks is good for them. And Platinum will make any game they're asked for as long as they get the funding.
