Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware Sales 13 January 2018

I still think the XBO will reach about 55 million lifetime. Some people can say they are doomed all they want but it is rather impressive to sell that many consoles considering they didn't even try for half the gen

Oh make no mistake. They tried. In every way the knew how. Prie slashes, dekineting, firesales, timed exclusive deals, policy changes.....

The only place they didnt do well is in bolstering their own first party library. And thats why the XB1 is not in the news today. Also that is why their problem isn't an easy one to fix. Games sells hardware and as this gen has also clearly shown, generates hype and builds momentum. There is a reason why sony 1st party games all come within the first 2/3rd of the year.

Don't this the XB1 is doing bad but that it's getting outdone by Sony and Nintendo. Thus far XBO has been up compared to 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and if MS can stay up with a more consistent flow of games I think they will be happy.

I'll write one more post and then leave it at that.

We have gotten off topic. The argument is now about whether a number is from January 21st or December 31st. The reality is : it doesn't matter.

This is how the argument started:

"switch way over tracked, you guys really think that if switch was at 14 million already by the 13 of jan, nintendo would only anounce 13 million number jan 30." - Quickrick

First he said Jan 30th, then 21st.

He sayd its overtracked because the 13 million is from the 21st .. but then later admits that parts of the world arent included in that statistic? He says its overtracked but then literally says that parts of the world that VGC is trying to cover arent included?

ROW sales compensate for as much as 1.5-2 mil. Even if 13 million was by the 21st, it almost seems deceptive to say its overtracked on a site that is trying to figure out total sales ...

This is the claim that matters, and this is a wrong claim. The site is tracking it fine

Ok, now that that is clear. I think Microsoft tried as hard as possible to market XB1. Its a great value. So is Game Pass. Its not really up to them anymore how it sells. Kind of feel bad for it.

Care to explain why this would be impossible? Because you think Nintendo can't possibly sell 3 Million consoles in 3 weeks during holiday season?

well NPD tracks starting november 26 we know nintendo hit 10 million by  this date december 4-10, so by best case scenario you need to  shave off 8 days plus cyber monday  in the npd results of 1.5 million, that would put it at 1 million in north america, then japan would be around 550k, that would only leave europe which is much weaker then north america.

You missed the part where in many european countries they sold pretty much as much during the holiday season as they did throughout the rest of the year. You can deduce at most 500k from US sales (Nintendo sells more the closer they are to the holidays; 300k would actually be more correct imo, but ok, so we're at 11M), add the million from Japan (550k is until December 17, not december 31 - there's literally 2 200k+ weeks missing there) and a million from Europe and you're at 13M

Don't think EU numbers are lower to US numbers because Sony is outselling the Switch there, the numbers are actually roughly similar. It's Sony who has much more sales in Europe than it does in NA, which lends to this perception

the thing is, if the site has vgchartz at has 14.6 million by the 28, i'm sure nintendo wouldn't be using 13 million number, just doesn't make sense to me, there is no doubt the numbers to me are the most recent, not at any time does nintendo say sold through till DEC 31.

Awwww...That's sweet. :) I like to rag on it a bit, but it's very lovely console.

Didnt try?

They have cut the price pretty much annually, they have released all of their big exclusive IP, they have paid for exclusivity for some really big franchises, they have released a redesign and an upgrade, they are now going to have all their IP available day 1 through Game Pass.....

They have tried their asses off.

Aside from slashing prices which all three companies do what else have they done? Thats right a whole lot of nothing.

300k during the holidays in 8 days with cyber money included, it's at least 500k, japan is actually around 780k from December 4, and according nintedo own charts switch is at 5.5 million in north America while it's only 3.5 million in europe. remember this is best case scenario the 10 million mark could be any where between dec 4-10

A little rag here and there is fine xD. I just wish ANY OTHER console had the Game Pass... can you imagine?
