Forums - Sony Discussion - Fun comparation: PS4 VS GTA V, which will sell more?

Question number 2, how many consoles are gonna be surpassed by GTA V?

GTA V will only outsell 360 and PS3 7 33.33%

GTA V will outsell Wii and PS1 8 38.10%

GTA V will outsell Gameboy 4 19.05%

GTA V will outsell DS and... 2 9.52%

Total:21

Unless it releases on another platform I don't see it passing the 100m mark.

PS4 should reach 115m.

Yep, GTA V sell just to much...it is possible that it will cross 100-130M threshould

Looking at yearly numbers, at first glance it seems fairly obvious that PS4 is going to win in the long run. PS4 has beaten GTA V every year since 2014, and by a comfortable margin too. I don't see the situation getting any worse at least. GTA V's numbers are only going to get worse, whereas PS4 seems to have had a slightly better year than in 2016, so it's either peaking and slowly getting worse or it just keeps selling even more.

Interesting comparison. I think GTA 5 will outsell PS4 lifetime numbers and I don't expect a PS5/Xbox port to happen (Switch port seems possible though).

But you don't have PC and digital numbers of GTA 5 at the yearly charts. They could be bigger than most people expect them to be.

GTA's 85 million seems to be the official number, so we can assume it includes all numbers, including PC and digital.

PS4, GTA5 will end up somewhere around 110m probably. Thats assuming we will have GTAVI this gen and that GTAV want be on PS5/XB2.

Now that I think of it, do you believe that there could be a VR version of GTA V later down the line, when those devices have a bigger audience, or is it too much work for the conversion to be profitable?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I can see GTA V surpassing the Wii and the PS1 (maybe even the GameBoy) if they port it to the Switch, but I don't think they'll be able to basically double the game's sales to surpass the PS2.
