Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Netflix 'still exploring' Switch

They’ll probably join later this year.

Personally I feel like these things are largely irrelevant, it's a nice feature if you use those services sure but I don't think any console really "needs" netflix. I buy consoles for the games only, those added features never make a difference to me.

Yeah exactly. Switch certainly doesn't need Netflix. I can't imagine why I would ever want to use my Switch for netflix when I already have a computer. Not having Netflix won't affect sales at all.

Looks like Netflix may have been making demands Nintendo didn't want to meet or Nintendo wanted to make a deal with Hulu for a period.  Switch needed Netflix like yesterday, but I will say, I watch more Hulu now due to this.

The initial Tweet said:

“There are currently no plans for Netflix on Nintendo Switch.”

Then after inquiry:

“We are still exploring the opportunity with Nintendo, but don’t have definitive plans to share at this time,” the Netflix spokesperson told Polygon. The rep added that Netflix will send an update to that effect from @Netflixhelps; the company has since deleted the original tweet from yesterday, but you can see a screencap below.

Netflix On Switch: Still No Plans For Streaming App On Nintendo's Latest Device.

01/15/18  <---- yesterday.

"When asked if there were plans for Netflix on the Switch, the Netflix customer service Twitter account responded that there were no current plans to support the console. That seems surprising when Netflix was available on all previous Nintendo consoles, including the 3DS."

have the basic netflix on switch then explore later....

Wouldn't want to clutter the system with options. That's not how you get GOTYs.

Nintendo is most likely the holdout (probably want a higher % of revenue) and I hope Netflix doesn’t cave to their demands.

The Switch needs Netflix more than Netflix needs the Switch.

Even though many may scoff at extra features and apps, it's actually a massive selling point in today's market, especially on a tablet device. There are plenty of market driving features and trends that I have no interest in (such as handheld Netflix on phones or tablets), but that doesn't make it irrelevant. Nintendo better make sure to garner the support of the industry entertainment giants asap, added functionality only increases perceived value.

Switch is doing great even whitout Netflix or Hulu, but I am pretty sure Netflix will come on Switch eventually, I mean even Wii U had Netflix.

My one and only concern with adding more features to the Switch is it that will slow down the functionality of the console. Aside from that, the more apps, the better!

How? As long as new apps will not be preloaded or have to have services run in the background it won't slow down anything.

And how would it even slow down anything? Last time I checked people said that the Switch is one of the most powerful mobile devices ever created.
