Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: Monster Hunter World will be the best selling MH of all time

How many units will Monster Hunter World sell lifetime?

3 Mio 17 20.73%

4 Mio 20 24.39%

5 Mio 11 13.41%

6 Mio 8 9.76%

7 Mio 5 6.10%

8 Mio 5 6.10%

9 Mio 1 1.22%

over 10 Mio 15 18.29%

Total:82

This franchise has no appeal in the west, the amount of people overestimating the success of this game is wayyy too high (10 million, really??).

The fact that this game is going to be released later on the PC will already make that platform irrelevant in terms of actual sales, a late release means that the hype for the game has died down and it will basically be ignored for the most part especially during a time where games like RDR2 and Anthem are going to release, it's almost impossible for this game to gain any sort of following on the PC, especially in the west.

The Xbox has never received Japanese games with open arms except for franchises like Dragon Ball and Naruto which are very popular anime franchises that have a very substantial western audience. So it's probably going to sell like a dud on the Xbox One.

The PS4 owners, for the most part, will buy the game but it will reach nowhere near the 5 million mark, the max it will do is 3 million (that's being generous) and a large chunk of that will be bought by the Japanese owners.

Final verdict:
PS4: 2.5 million
Xbox One: 0.7 million
PC: 0.1 million

3-5M on PS4 LT
750k-1.5M LT on XB1 + PC

There's a chance. It would surprise me if it does more than 4.1 Million to break the Top 3. That would be quite impressive for a home console game. If it ever gets a Switch port, you can expect that to push it closer to (or past) 5M LT on all systems.

You think MH:W will sell less than 4 mio? That is a joke

6 mio is a safe bet and 8 mio is a risky bet

Take Famitsu with a grain of salt, but its review revealed some nice details (initially found on ERA):

  •  50-60 hours to reach the ending. Lots of replay value after that.
  •  Massive increase in the feeling of presence, and lots of QoL changes make it a more comfortable experience. Truly worthy of being called the next generation Monster Hunter.
  •  The seamless areas keep you in the action, without an interruptions.
  •  The pacing of the action has also been increased.
  •  A wide range of information, from weapon trees to monster weakpoints and parts that can be broken can now all be checked in-game, making it much easier even for new players to start the game.
  •  Scoutflies are revolutionary.
  •  The areas spread out in all directions, there's always more things to find or see.
  •  The story has a strong, solid through line.
  •  Definitely a game for cat lovers.
  •  It also includes systems that series' fans can dig down deeper into.

very nice but 50-60 hours is not much

Thats like saying it only takes 50-60 hours in World of Warcraft to reach max level...... thats not very much!
But the "end game" content is actually where most of the time will be spent, not the leveling up part.

So those 50-60hours of single player content, to get through the story mode part... is probably fine.
after that theres ton of stuff still left to do (from my understanding).

It also won't help that if the PC version turns out to be a bad port, it will simply die on the spot. What else doesn't help is that all the platforms will be getting their own sets of games during the rest of this year. The late release on PC will be stacked up against a plethora of games that are vying for purchases. I'm already sold on the new Theme Hospital game, and that's set to release during fall like MHW. I'd rather buy that than the very late and likely high priced port job.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

3.5million across all platforms is realistic.

Horizon Zero Dawn is probably over 6m now.....  Uncharted 4, above 10m (it was over 8.7m in jan 2017, its been a year).
I think a Monster Hunter, which is a big franchie, that makes a new game that isnt the same old same old, and held back by Handhelds, can do really well.

Id be surprised if it does less than 5m lifetime.
