Forums - Sony Discussion - Monster Hunter World Beta on PS4 Pro offers 3 options, all run slighter better than regular PS4

to be honest the very slight boost in performance between resolution and framerate mode suggests to me, that it's the CPU that's holding the PS4 Pro back here and it's pretty tought to get more out of that one

right now it seems the resolution mode makes the most sense, especially if they can employ a 30fps lock and maintain this for 95%+ of the time

they could easily archieve 60fps in 900p on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

no, that's naive

if the game logic with all the different AI creatures, physics, etc doesn't run above 60fps you won't get that kind of a performance boost from a marginal drop in resolution

yes you can even with drops to 55 thats still considered 60fps, but what game isnt dropping below any target these days?

*sigh* dropping resolution from 1080p to 900p is a ~30% reduction of pixels, which could benefit a game that's limited by GPU power by a good 25+%, but a game that's strictly limited by CPU power might only profit by 5%

in reality it's pretty certainly a combination of CPU/GPU limitations that's holding the framerate back in MHW, but a 40-50% jump over the current performance mode by going to 900p seems unlikely to me unless they find really good ways to clean up the code for the final release on PS4 Pro

the XxX is a bit better in the CPU/GPU department and might be able to pull off a good 60fps at 900p

More than 5% probaly over 20%, the CPU constantly gives commands to render a higher resolution and more ram is free. MT framework is a last gen engine so it needs higher a GPU power and video ram to operate, just play Lost planet colonies on PC, it was a night and day difference when i upgraded my old HP prebuilt with a GTX 260.

he says more than 4month old build hes playing... hopefully by the time the final build is out, those 40fps -> 60fps.

Really hoping you're correct about this as MHW doesn't look to have a legitimate reason not to be 60fps.

that's quite a different situation if requests have to got through several layers of abstraction usually creating disproportionate burden for the CPU with Dx9/Dx10, while on console CPU overhead can be cut down pretty effectively by "coding to the metal"

though maybe MT framework still isn't all too optimised in that respect, as last gen consoles had such a different CPU to GPU power balance

Holy hell, no wonder Capcom won't announce the game for the Switch when base PS4 frequently dips to the mid 20's ...

One of the more technically atrocious titles if I say so ...

It's weird. Had I just seen trailers I might argue and say it's one of the best looking games right now. After playing the demo though, ehhhh ... the fine details aren't so fine. It's certainly still really technically advanced but not as good as I was expecting

Guess this will be a PC purchase for me! Hope the port is good

I'll wait for performance analyses once it's been released.

No wonder it wasn't on the Switch
