PS4P Slim will probably be announced at E3 next year.

Sony have great games line up for next year and IMO should focus on games for 2019 as well. I do not understand the need for a new gen so early. Moreover they need to analyze how the X is selling and if people are interested in 500$ mid gen upgrade? then I would think 500$ new gen console will be on cards. But 2019 makes no sense. With PS4P Slim and games they are good for couple of years at least.

Oh but Sony will focus on PS4 games for BOTH 2018 and 2019, I only said the PS5 will release at the END of 2019. The reason why they will announce the PS5 at E3 2018 (just announce, nothing more) is to steal the thunder from the Xbox One X, because that's what Microsoft did, by announcing the X long in advance, in everybody's mind the X "is" and not "will be" the most powerful system ever. Nobody consciously realized that the X's power did not matter until November 7 2017, before that the most powerful console ever was the PS4 Pro, yet people acted as if the X being the king was a thing of the present when it was not.

I don't see Sony willingly letting the X being the king of power for too long, especially since the actual release of the PS5 is much later (End of 2019) so saying nothing about it until that far off in the future seems like letting the X establish itself.

Also, how is a PS5 releasing at the end of 2019 an "early release" ? That would make it 6 full years after the release of the PS4 (End of 2013) and 3 full years after the mid-gen system that is the Pro (End of 2016).

And why do you say that Sony needs to see if people are interested in mid gen upgrades? They have lots of time to do that later because the PS5 is NOT a mid-gen system, it's a NEW gen system, I'm sure you understand that. So the mid-gen argument is not relevant here.

PS will only care about which console has the strongest performance, if the console with the strongest performance sells much higher numbers than the console with lesser performance. Even If when XB1X stabilizes, it's sales are on par or slightly higher than Pro, PS will not be to worried about the performance factor. Redesigning the Pro and slimming it down, while reducing it's price, and bundling in games, will be their main goal in the near term.

If PS4 continues to sell like it has, then announcing PS5 as late as possible makes more sense. Even PS said after the Pro announcement, that they feel there is no need to announce so early like the XB1X or PS4 did initially. The sooner customers and early adopters know a new gen is coming, the sooner they start to focus on that new gen, and begin to leave this gen behind. Depending on things like BC, it may soften the next gen blow a bit and keep some customers buying PS4 if they know those games will work on a PS5 (excluding customers who require a low price in order to purchase).

XB1X will have to vastly outsell Pro, consistently, for PS to begin to ponder whether or not they should announce PS5 early. Even if that ends up being the situation, if PS were to announce PS5 at E3 2018 (assuming a mid-late 2019 launch), they more than likely would only announce the launch window and that it will be the most powerful console ever made by far. I don't even see them giving out the specs until E3 2019. That would be more than enough to make it seem like XB1X isn't anything special, even though it would still remain the stronger hardware for another year (and a half).

Basically PS would do the same thing to XB, as XB did to them at E3 2016. The difference being that I don't think PS will show their hand until they absolutely have to, just in case XB is potentially thinking about doing the same thing to them again. If XB was thinking about announcing at E3 2019 that they also have a very strong next gen console coming mid-late 2020, then PS wants to make sure that if XB has the stronger console, that it was simply luck, and not because they knew the PS5 specs an entire year in advance. Even if the next XB wasn't coming until 2021, PS would still want to hold off on giving out the final specs as long as possible, because the sooner XB knows those numbers, the sooner they could maneuver if they felt the need to.

I personally don't see this happening. I think XB1X will sell well early, but will fizzle out and be an extra for the minority of customers, just like Pro. I think mid gen upgrades are not the answer. If I were PS and XB, I would shoot for two tiers of consoles at launch in terms of performance, or shorten the gen to 5 years, maybe both. Truthfully with tech slowing down, there really is no perfect answer to hardware advancements going forward for consoles.

PS5 will release when PS4 sales start declining. 2020/2021

Definitely not, the ps4 is not showing any signs of slowing down. I think we'll start seeing signs of the ps5 in 2020 then it will hit the market in 2021.

i dont even get how ppl can say its coming 2019 when ps4 just had a beast year and 2018 looking even better.

It's not Sony who offers the 4k 60fps. It's still the game developer how he utilizes the resources.

Yep. Sony are promoting the Pro as a mid gen upgrade. It's MS that are leaning on the 4K/60fps promotions. That's my point. Sony can afford to gain a 1 year lead if they wish.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a one year lead anymore.  They'd be two years behind Xbox One X by that standard.  Hopefully these companies wait so they can provide some sort of a visual leap over Xbox One X that looks like more than just an overclocked Xbox One X.  12TF PS4 would be like going from a gamecube to a wii in terms of graphics. Framerates with a new CPU arch would of course be vastly improved.

Makes the most sense to me.
