It's good that they're keeping their file sizes for their games really small but they kinda have to with the internal HD space the NS has. I think that this will be a problem that ultimately impends most 3rd party devs/pubs from putting games on the NS. I hope that Nintendo eventually comes up with a NS SKU with a much higher internal HD to accommodate 3rd party devs/pubs who want to bring their games to the NS and gamers who want to play those kind of games without having to buy a miniSD just to play the game.

They dont need to, Switch memory is very easily expandable buy MicroSD cards. We already have some digital 3rd party games that take hole Switch internal memory, but that isn't problem also when you can very easily expand memory buy Micro SD card, so if you go digital with Switch you will buy MicroSD later or sooner in any case.

Sure, if you're only talking about the first party games but I'm not. I was talking about third party dev/pub support and games.  You shouldn't have to buy a SD card to play any game available for the console. Nintendo needs to upgrade the internal space on the NS just so it's able to play more third party games. It's gonna affect third party support in the future negatively if nintendo doesn't. Nintendo fans should at least ask for more from nintendo.

Well it looks like a Ps3 1080p game :P

Really ?

Well yeah.. and not that that's a bad thing it's Nintendo. I was saying it's a small size because it's not exactly a graphical marvel. I mean u can't really say that Switch games look next gen ?

Great to see that you agree with me!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

They don't have to, but they're heavily incentivized to. Larger files leads to more expensive cartridges for Nintendo, and their consumers spending more money on stuff that doesn't benefit Nintendo themselves (and for those with less money that expense will also often mean less game purchases in general).

Fortunately for Nintendo many of their games are already fairly well suited to small files. They're often technically reserved, have few custscenes, less audio files, and have to deal with smaller asset files than a PS4/X1 title. Add in some relatively aggressive compression (since the financial upsides is worth the technical downsides for them) and you end up with a fairly small file.

Offcourse, but look also on size of Wii U games, SM3DW is 1.7GB on Wii U disk, they relly didnt need to make so small size on disk.

That's a really weak excuse for HD space in a 9th gen console that's even smaller than the HD space in gen 7 consoles. Of course, if you only compare HD space in nintendo consoles, it might seem okay or at least the same as a wii u deluxe but it's definitely not enough for even 7th gen 3rd party games, much less 8th gen 3rd party games.

You should be able to buy and play any game with a new console without having to buy SD cards or external HDs.

Back to my main point "I hope that Nintendo eventually comes up with a NS SKU with a much higher internal HD to accommodate 3rd party devs/pubs who want to bring their games to the NS and gamers who want to play those kind of games without having to buy a miniSD just to play the game."

I don't see any excuse, it very simple, you need bigger storage you can very easily expand it.

But you can buy and play games whitout having to buy MicroSD, but if you want more games digital you will definatly need MicroSD.

If 3rd partys want their games on Switch they will release their games, and that doesn't have anything with storage of Switch beacuse Switch storage is very easily expandable. And for the record, Switch is using MicroSD, not MiniSD, and you can bet that evrewhone has few spare MicroSD cards, and prices of MicroSD card are geting lower and lower.

No Nintendo doesn't need to upgrade internal space on Switch, if users need bigger storage they can easily expand it. Fact is that Switch selling great despite 32GB storage and Switch startet receiving more and more AAA 3rd party announcements despite 32GB storage.

Switch is portable so unless you want to pay 100 or so quid more for more internal space SD cards are a given.

-snip-

There were indeed less incentives on the WiiU, but as i said it's what they make that gives the an edge here. When Nintendo makes games more in line with the technical practises of other developers their games inflates in a similar fashion (e.g. XCX, and to a lesser extent BotW).

We can still praise them for their small files, it just gets tiring seeing people repeatedly conflates file size with skill. The latter is relevant when the former is a priority, but likewise a large file can be an active choice (less compression presents its own advantages), or an unavoidable consequence of what's being made. It's as annoying as when people conflate small files with a game having little content.

That's a number of 3rd party games that you have to buy a mirco SD card just to play the game or it won't work because the whole game doesn't fit, updates won't fit or the saves won't. The HD storage isn't enough just to play a good bit of 3rd party games so you have to get a memory expansion just to play the games available for it. You don't see a problem with that? You're making excuses for the NS because it's a nintendo console.

I'm not talking about owning a bunch of digital games and keeping them all on the HD. What I'm saying is that it can't even hold one game without needing a SD card. More than likely, the NS won't even get a quarter of the 3rd party support the PS4 has because of that. Alot of games exceed 32 GB.
