Forums - Movies & TV - Colin Trevorrow Exits Star Wars Episode 9; Disney will announce new Director at a later date

Again?

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

This entire trilogy is a creative failure

What is Star wars?

But there is only one movie out. We should wait for the other 2 to come out.

Of course, but judging on them right NOW, I would say the trilogy is a creative failure. Disney keeps hiring directors that actually have a directorial voice, and then rejecting them over "creative differences". A company snooping around too much in the creation of a film is very rarely a good thing.

Personally I'm ok with this, I never felt like Colin was right for Episode 9. He has very little directorial experience and only 1 hit, and none of his directorial experience was on a sci-fi movie. I feel like Disney jumped the gun by choosing him as director just because Jurassic World was a hit.

I just hope they find somebody good to replace him.

I completely agree. From their initial announcements as the directors of 8 and 9, I have always been excited about Rian and worried about Colin. Jurassic World was amusing, but it certainly didn't display much depth in storytelling or the intelligence I would like in the finale of a Star Wars trilogy. It was dumb fun, and I would like Star Wars to be more than that. People can complain of studio interference, but sometimes displaying quality control over a brand is not a bad thing, it certainly worked for Rogue One.

Normally I'll be with you on this, but we're talking Star Wars and Disney won't risk having the IP lose any value, they won't release something that will jeopardize the serie, even if they need to replace their director. You just have to look at Warner Bros, letting Zack Snyder direct and produce the DCU was a terrible mistake.

I'm not saying it's wrong to throw this guy out. He's not even that good of a director. I'm just saying that the way Disney has handled the Star Wars license has been pretty bad so far, this isn't the only movie they've kicked multiple directors out of, they are doing a bad job managing their staff.

Thank god!

Hopefully Rian Johnson is willing to take over.

I'm not ready to say that they're handling the franchise badly. You may have been disappointed by ep7, but overall they've took the right decisions. We should wait for the Last Jedi before judging thoses decisions. But one thing is clear, Star Wars is in better hand now than 5 years ago.
