I normally hate when people say this kind of thing but I'm starting to feel it a bit. Anybody else feel like gaming has peaked? I'm not going as far as the people who say "Music is complete garbage today, no more true musicians" by any means. Games still tend to be great & I can enjoy them quite a bit. It's just that, they don't surprise me or capture my full attention like before.

It's probably just a mix of nostalgia and me no longer being a kid

I feel you. I think every medium has a golden age, and for gaming the golden age is in the rearview mirror.

That's not to say that all we get now is garbage; far from it. 2017 brought with it arguably the best game ever made.

But I do think game design peaked a while ago.

Thanks for the thread

This game is bae: (Persona 4)

Would you say Persona 4 is the best Persona?

I still haven't beaten P3 yet, but I'm already loving the story of that one a little more.

I also think P5 is way better, but ofc, this isn't the thread for that.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Persona 5 is on the PS3, so you can post all the Futaba you want, and it will still be relevant to the thread. ;)

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If anything it is more of a slump caused by over inflated budgets and corporate greed.

The inflated budgets that focus on graphics and "bigger must be better" worlds aren't helping, I agree. Actually, that might have a good amount to do with it as I'm not too fond of open world design.

As I said in the post above, I think open world design has a lot to do with it. The lack of focus on having a strong environment with interesting level design has hurt. At least for me, I'd rather a game have a strong core over a big open area with less direction. The sacrifice in design gives the player freedom but the trade off is too much. I guess it just isn't my style.

and, you're welcome
