In fairness, the first FIFA game on any new platform is always stripped down.

They are?

As far as I remember FIFA 14 launched feature complete on Ps4/Xone new engine and all. Maybe I'm getting it confused though..?

There's always some mode missing.

Apparently it didn't have couch coop for online either.

I'll admit though, it was more feature complete than say, the Vita version was.

I don't think I'm oversimplifying things at all actually. EA is very aware of what kind of gamers own a Switch and what games they buy. They pay research firms to find out just that information. You're positive that the Sims would sell better than FIFA on the Switch? Based on what exactly?

You're acting like you know more about the Switch and its userbase than EA does. Don't you think that's just a tad ridiculous?

If we're going down that path, why bother discussing these topics at all? After all, what do we puny mortals know about the almighty corporate behemoths and their business decisions?

To stay on the matter at hand: I think it's much cheaper for EA to port last-gen FIFA to Switch than developing a current-gen title with a The Sims or Star Wars license. It's a low risk move and I can dig that. But as a test-case it really doesn't say much about the receptiveness from the audience to EA titles in general.

There's a difference between questioning a company's business decsions and claiming you know better than they do. I mean lets face it, EA has pourned tens of thousands of dollars, if not more developing their Switch game roll out strategy - looking at the market, looking at EAs own libraries, and analyzing how they can expect each title to sell based on the results of raw data and focus groups, and you... you sat there and thought "I can't imagine FIFA selling better than the Sims on the Switch".

Come on man.

I think I made my point clearly enough. If you're not willing to discuss the actual topic at hand, fine. Publishers are not infallible (EA least of all), and I really don't feel like going into this meta-discussion with you.

I do think you are oversimplifying things here to be honest. EA needs to ask themselves what kind of gamers own a Switch, and what kind of games they buy. FIFA has never been big on Nintendo platforms or handhelds. I'm positive that The Sims, Need for Speed and Star Wars would resonate much better with the Switch's audience than FIFA.

FIFA 17 is the first game in the series using Frostbite 3.

Also:

"As many of you have already found out, the next gen version of FIFA 14 is missing a few features from their old gen counter parts. What this means is that the following are not included for the Xbox ONE, and PS4:

- Creation Center
- Tournament Mode (Creating custom tournaments)
- No Guest play in Seasons
- No Co-Op seasons "

And to be fair, the last Sims game released was The Sims 4 in 2014. EA might not have anything from the Sims franchise that is suitable (or low risk) to port to the Switch at this time. FIFA might have been chosen because it's more current and a higher volume seller.

I realize that, thank you. But as far as I remember there was some buzz about the 'new next gen engine'....

So - I googled it now and my brain wasn't completely fried. FIFA 14 switched to the ignite engine on consoles. That's what I was thinking of.

I'd argue those are rather minor omissions compared to the entirety of the story mode, but I digress, FIFA 14 wasn't feature complete on PS4/XONE.

I feel this is the sentiment that most 3rd parties are thinking of at the moment

Will only bother porting if they can make money off of it, which makes sense

oh true, I felt like Ignite was much older than that.

Why FIFA? If that's the metric by which they want to decide if it's worth porting to the Switch, I guess we won't see any EA games on the Switch then.

FIFA is one of the few EA games that's easy to port on Switch, so of course that's the Benchmark. I don't expect seeing Battlefield, Dragon Age or Mass Effect anytime soon on the Switch. Can't bench games for the Switch that will never come to the Switch.
