Why not going on? This tag appears on MGS4 too.

Seriously, I'm not sure to get your point, if I remove MGS from my list of TPS major franchises, then the TPS sales trending would look more bad.

lol. As if that changes anything! Even if one or two games do have that label, this series spans over 10 games. It's like saying that the Metal Gear Solid series is set in Alaska because MGS1 and part of MGS4 is. The Metal Gear series is not a third person shooter series. Period.

Don't be so dishonest.

"this series spans over 10 games"

Speaking of being dishonest, this is totally wrong. There are only 5 main entries, the spin-offs and the non-Solid games are not part of the main series.

But you still did not tell me whats the point of removing this franchise from the TPS sales trending analysis? Let's say you're right and MGS is an AA game rather than a TPS, the numbers would only shows that my conclusion is more true: TPS genre is faltering.

That said, some other people could claim that Mass Effect series is more of a RPG than TPS, and we could go on and on leaving no franchise at all to take the datas from. Someone somewhere has to trace a line, you may disagree with my choices and thats fine but at least try to share your thoughts on how good is doing the TPS genre sales wise. That's what this topic is about.

You really don't know shit about Metal Gear. Let me inform you.

Metal Gear - 1987
Metal Gear 2 - 1990
Metal Gear Solid - 1998
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - 2001
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - 2004
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - 2006
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - 2008
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - 2010
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - 2014
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - 2015

That's 10 games that are all considered to be mainline, canon Metal Gear games. It's technically 11 since Metal Gear Rising: Revenegance is also canon. Then there's Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel which plays like Metal Gear, but is set after MGS. It's not canon, but it's still a mainline Metal Gear game.

Here's the Chronology:
1964 – Snake Eater
1970 – Portable Ops
1974 – Peace Walker
1975 – Ground Zeroes
1984 – The Phantom Pain
1995 – Metal Gear
1999 – Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
2005 – Metal Gear Solid
2007/09 – Sons of Liberty
2014 – Guns of the Patriots
2018 – Revengeance

If you want to argue how any of those games aren't part of the main series, you need to explain why the apparent "mainline" games reference other, non-mainline games and vice versa.

I don't care if the TPS genre is faltering (even though it isn't, you just excluding the top TPS games from recent years because reasons). My point was the Metal Gear series is not a TPS, and never has been. Furthermore, your numbers for MGS2 and MGS3 are actually off because you failed to include the sales of MGS2: Substance, and MGS3: Subsistence when they're literally enhanced versions of the original games all for PS2.

And you don't know shit about reading properly. I said not part of the main series. There is no point in comparing a spin-off, a remake, a prologue or any non-main entry of a franchise sales wise.

Anyway, if you don't care about the TPS genre trending in sales, you don't have anything to do here, sorry. You have ignored my whole argument as to why I have included the MGS franchise, Mass Effect, etc. Someone somewhere has to trace a line.

But shooting is a bigger element in those games than in Mass effect. And RE and MGS use shooting in a very different way than other third person shooters. Uncharted, Tomb Raider, and The Last of Us are all extremely third person shooting heavy, whereas Mass Effect 3 and MGS V and RE 5-6 are the only really shooting-oriented ones.

It's always kind of hard to trace a line between a two different genres but from my point of view (and the one of wikipedia too) Uncharted and Tomb Raider are classified as Action-Adventure, not TPS. If I included them in my graph some other people would have complained.

In Mario Galaxy you can shoot stars and it's a 3rd person game, also they've made 2 of them.

I complain. It should be in the graph. Definetly.

lol

Same for Mario Kart...

Why have you included Resident Evil 7 in this comparison?

Well it's a good thing that the other games I mentioned aren't spin-offs, remakes, prologues or non-main entries, are they? They are all mainline games.

Again, you don't know shit about Metal Gear.

For fucks sakes. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker leads directly into the events of Metal Gear Solid V, that Metal Gear Solid V directly references multiple times,  but you include one but not the other because ignorance.

Just out of curiosity which franchise would you include? What would be your picks for action-adventure major franchises too?
