It doesn't apply since not everything with Mario in it are rated highly. But when a Mario game does get a really good score, it usually deserves it. Unless you really didn't care much for 64, Galaxy, 3D World, NSMB, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc.

I didn't say every Mario game is highly rated, just higher than it should be. So the ones that aren't highly rated would be even lower if they weren't Mario games.

Who are these people? I've heard many myself included saying they feel 84 is lower than what the game actually is, but that's not the same as saying 84 is a low score in general.

Yeah OoT was first and I get that so it hooked more people. But I had been spoiled by so many great games on Ps1 like Tekken 3, Resident Evil, Castlevainia SOTN, Xenogears and on my N64 Golden eye, Super mario 64, Wave race, Danjo-Kazooie so I was quite spoiled withg ood games already! I know they are all different from OoT but still out great games. And when OoT came out I was like wow this is an amazing game and loved it but then 2 years later when I got MM I felt like Jak that MM improved on OoT in every single way. SO for me when it got a lower score I was liek what! How! LOL but yes OoT was a great game back then I would never deny that.....ever.

I guess, but when the first one had a 81 and it was great, a 84 doesnt feel low to me specially knowing that the model they chose to release content through updates after the release is fated to hurt the initial score, also Tropical Freeze had less than that and it was superb.

I'm suddenly reminded of that dunkey video last week about game reviewers looking through the MetaCritic. The language really doesn't match the score. "An amazing and unique game. - 7/10" lol

He hit the nail on the head with how major websites basically get random writers they employ to review each game so you don't get any kind of consistency.   All major sites that count heavily towards the metacritc score should be required to have multiple people play and review a game like EGM used to do.

Famitsu still does that. It's not like any of these reviews are bad or anything. They just seem inconsistent, which calls their quality into question. If it's a 7/10, then the person reviewing it should know how to word it to make that clear in the language. This is why game journalists are the bottom rung of that particular ladder. No real skill required.

Thats clear BS, Mario Party and Paper Mario also have word Mario in and last one has metascore below 7 and other below 8.  Talking specifkly aobut MK8, MK8 (actually MK8D with fixed battle mode and more content) is widly considered for best MK game ever, thats why has metascore 92, while for instance prevous for Wii has metascore of 82.

You basically don't have any evidence for claims that Nintendo games are higher rated than it should be.
