People that compared ARMS with Splatoon mean they were both new fresh Ips that people think will flop and then go and do well, that's exactly what Arms is, of course is not on Splatoon levels of sales, fighting games are not as popular as multiplayer shooters, but basically nobody said it would sell as well as Splatoon, that's just a desperate attempt to downgrade a clear success.

I love how you speak on behalf of all who compared it to splatoon.  Most actually meant in terms of sales and popularity. It's clearly falling short.

I only brought that up to counter the point someone else made about lots of people saying it would flop.  Not to downplay it's relative success. Let's not push a false narrative here.

When the release was close there was way more people thinking it was gonna flop than people that thought it was gonna be a gigantic success like Splatoon, specially after the few points the game was getting on COMG

It's not false. It's simple mathematics. You're got 1 million early Switch adopters with not much of a choice.

Yes, because Switch owners HAVE to buy games regularly or their brain explodes.  These are games not cocaine.  If owners think the game is bad it won't sell. Lack of competition means its easier to get attention.  It does NOT mean it is easier to get positive attention.  Wonderful 101 launched on an even more starved Wii U and sold like ass.  And the Dreamcast and Saturn were home to many games that had little competition that sold terribly.  Just a lack of competition doesn't mean sales will go up.

This isn't cocaine, where taking out the premium dealers results in people buying the shady crap cut with contaminants in some rat hole.  These are video games.

Well said.

When Nintendo games are selling good some people will say that's because owners doesn't have anything to play, when some game bombs like W101 that was launched on even much more starved Wii U, they will say it's because bad game. Nintendo really can't win in any case for some people.

I'd argue that some said it would flop and some said it was the next splatoon. Most however thought it would do good. Somewhere in between. And it's turning out exactly like that.

I personally was surprised when everyone was claiming that the 100k debit was amazing given that half the people predicted above that in the prediction thread. Miyamoto predicted 150k, tbone 111k for example. Maybe they are right though - maybe it will do 600k-725k LTD.

And ARMS actually sold 120k with digital sales 1st week, and sales would even better if Nintendo ship more Switch units instead just 35k, so I wasn't too off in any case.

Oh, I got a shiny new toy and I'd let it collect dust? No, I'd rather buy 1-2 Switch.

If you're that in to 1-2 Switch then sure, why not?

Me personally, I'd much rather just keep playing Mario Kart while waiting for something else I want...

Well, probably not everyone wanted to re-buy Mario Kart. 1-2 Switch still sold 200k in Japan.

Oh, so you were factoring in digital sales, were you? It still needs another 25% to reach your first week numbers. And you said 625k by the end of the year, right?

Well we have digital numbers for 1st week sales, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't count them.

In May I said 150kfw and 600k years end (for the record ARMS passed 160k without digital sales). But this was my last prediction was 10 days before ARMS launch for fw.

No, a lot of people thought it would flop.  You just weren't paying attention.

And again with this incredibly persisten myth that fewer games=more sales regardless of quality.  This. is. demonstrably. false.

It's not false. It's simple mathematics. You're got 1 million early Switch adopters with not much of a choice.

If memory serves, wiiu owners didn't have much to play when Wonderful 101 launched and unfortunately flopped.

Edit: Just saw that others mentioned it. Never mind.

The WiiU was a console - something that's dead in Japan. Plus, as I said we don't know whether Nintendo advertised the game in Japan. If 10 system owners have the choice of 10 games, the average sale per game would lower than if those 10 system owners had 1 game to buy.

Wii U sold much better in 1st year than Vita and PS4, and W101 bombed also globally not just in Japan. And like people mentioned, Wii U had much less games than Switch in same time, so why more people didnt buy W101, if your point is that ARMS sold good because people didn't had nothing to play!?

Actually, in the quarter that W101 released, the WiiU sales were already down the drain - 9,565 on average per week. The average for August was 8,500 and around 5000 in September. So, the Wii U may have had a strong start but it was virtually dead in less than a year.
