Sony Looking Forward to “Selling a Lot of PS4 Pros” This Christmas, Says It Underestimated Demand

Sony’s Jim Ryan has said that the company expects to be in a “positive inventory situation” this Christmas and is looking forward to selling “a lot” of PlayStation 4 Pros during the holiday. In an interview with Games Industry, Ryan revealed that Sony had underestimated demand for the console and as a result, it has largely been out of stock since launch.

“It is only now that it is starting to come back into free supply, and only now are we really getting a sense of things,” explained Ryan while noting that “broadly speaking,” 40 percent of Pro customers are people who are upgrading their existing console but the supply constraint has been a “distortion” when making estimates.

Elsewhere in the interview, Ryan seemed confident about the coming months, stating that Sony will be releasing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Gran Turismo Sport within a span of a few months, which the company feels “pretty good” about. “We’ve never done that before,” he said.

In terms of competition, Sony isn’t worried about Microsoft’s Xbox One X and thinks that a “resurgent Nintendo back” is a good thing for the games industry as a whole.

Wait till that $50.00 price cut and a bundle with Horizon: Zero Dawn or COD: WWII. I must say the Pro is a great console. I bought one a few months ago and the visuals are amazing on just about everything. I think it'll do well this holiday season.

Black Friday bundles with the Pro?

has to be, also if they do a temp. price cut (349$) for the holidays... perfect way to welcome the xbox one x.

So tempted but the fact that it doesn't have 4K player is the only thing holding me back :(

$50 price cut with a bundled game and it should indeed sell very well. I said it before and I'll say it again, MS really screwed up by making Scorpio $500, they should have sold it for $400 or $450 and took the loss.

I don't think i'll struggle at all though. What I think will happen is it'll sell alongside the PS4 (Pro) and not really gain any headway into Sony's lead. And that in turn will lead to the X1X price drop.

Do you already have a PS4?

It streams content in 4k ..... physical media is dying .....

OT: 349 bundled with Horizon zero dawn, with a big 4k marketing on it and it would destroy Xbox one x

I look forward to seeing it happen. The cheapest 4k console on the market was always going to do well!

I'm looking for a Pro bunduru and a nice new color. White/Silver PS4 Pro with Horizon, UC Lost Legacy and GT Sport pls

They should market the Pro as the "Greatest 4K console in the world with the best and most exclusives", imagine Phil Spencer's salt when Sony's marketing machine starts and Pro is being pushed as the 4K console, he is gonna spend most his time trying to convince people Pro is not "True 4K" lol.

The ads for the biggest games of the year, Destiny 2, CoD WW2, SWBF2 should feature a "better on PS4 Pro, the ultimate 4K console" disclaimer.

I hope it'll still sell well thanks to it's increased power, but it feels like a really hard sell to me. If PS4 Pro drops to $350 and gets a bundled game this Holiday, we're looking at the equivalent of a $210 difference between the two this Holiday ($150 + $60 bundled game), unless XB1X has a bundled game as well, and even then we're still looking at a $150 difference for what is essentially just a resolution bump that you can only see if you have a 4K tv, doesn't seem like much of a selling point to me, not when 4K tv marketshare is so low right now. Now if MS had guranteed 1080p 60 fps with PC high/ultra equivalent graphics for most of the upcoming games in addition to the 4K mode, that would be a big selling point for XB1X, making it easily worth the price imo, but they didn't ensure that, they left the choice up to developers and developers are quite lazy.

MS is most definitely going to bundle it. They'd be crazy not to have a bundle for the holidays. Either with a game or some free Live sub time. From what I'm reading online though it seems XBOX fans are really looking forward to the console. Most of them are offsetting the cost by trading in their current X1's to Gamestop and putting that credit toward X1XYZABCDEFG's.
