Forums - General Discussion - Is anyone tired of the nostalgia hype of recent years

Nostalgia seems to be the big hype these days. It seems like this is going to be one of the most unremarkable and least creative decades. When people look back at it in the future, everything is a remake, reboot, rehash, remaster in gaming and movies. Casettes are making a comeback and VHS filter effects etc are hype. It seems everything that was popular since the 80s until the 00s are back in fashion again.

I didn't realize how big of a problem it was when I went shopping in my town's most fashionable place to buy new clothes, it was a yuuge nostalgia trip, it felt like I was back in 1999 or whatever

Onitsuka tigers

They were selling the exact same Pumas I bought over a decade ago!

Vans were back

Another thing I saw is this brand, it used to be in a store selling sportswear, now it's cool kids stuff

I've even seen Paris Hilton comeback! A video of her favorite fashion items of the early 00s few weeks ago got hundreds of thousands of views lol. Is Fila also back?

The internet is guilty for all this crap, everything of the past is so easily accessible, people refuse to move on, it's bad for creativity. I think Google should censor everything older than 10 years. JUST DO IT.

It only bothers me when they're trying to bring back stupid stuff.

I thought this post would be about nintendo or the new remaster/remakes, like FF7 and crash bandicoot. :)

Nostalgia rocks, the memories shape our personality, and adhering to nostalgia is a tribute to what make us ourselves.

"Of recent years."

Nostalgia hype has always existed. You're just old enough for it to cater to you now.

I play older games all the time. Now I'm playing Fallout (1997) at work, at home I would not have patience but for office it is perfect.

My Etsy store

My Ebay store

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I'm not sure if some of these things ever left...

i am nostalgie about many things

No. Not at all. I like it. Nostalgia is good. Both for business and for people.

Yeah, almost exclusively seeing threads about Sony and Nintendo on here. I mean, get the fuck over it and get a tablet or some shit.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

This covers it entirely.

People get older. They realise that being an adult is nowhere near as good as they thought it would be and that all the stuff their parents told them about "these are the best days of your life!", which sounded absurd at the time, was actually true. They wish they were carefree kids again and they buy things that remind them of their childhood. Every generation does this.

OP, if you think nostalgia is a new fad then you're either very, very young, or you haven't been paying much attention. The only remotely novel thing about the current wave of nostalgia is that adults are now having a lot of nostalgia about video games.
