Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One users largely ignore backward-compatible Xbox 360 games

I remember when this feature came out and was called a game changer. Everyone here was losing their minds over this.

Yea, some people said MS won E3 based soley on that announcement.  Look at where it's gotten them.  Of course, I'm not bashing B/C itself, as it's always a nice feature if it doesn't add too much expense to the system, but the people who acted like it was this awesome feature that won MS E3 and would propel them by having every 360 owner jump on board.

"Users on XBL". What about users offline?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Don't believe the Black Ops 2 part because when it became BC it was the most played game on XBO for quite a few days.

This report was released before BO2 became B/C.

Yeah, duh.

Also, that's 9 minutes for every 10 hours of usage.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

What would make them demographically different? Plus, you need to go online to verify and then download the game. Are you telling me people are going online, downloading the games, then going offline to play them?

Of course. It makes a difference, no matter what. Keep in mind this came out months before some heavy hitters like BO2 and ACIII.

Ybarra already shot the data down as incorrect:

Of course, Ars also did that themselves in the article, admitting the data can't accurately be extrapolated for the entire userbase:

All of these sources of potential error make us uncomfortable using our data to directly extrapolate total sales or usage numbers for the entire Xbox playerbase. The numbers and ratios presented in this report should only be considered representative, sampled estimates of the online portion of the Xbox community, which could be significantly different from the total community of Xbox owners. You can try to multiply out our percentages by reported hardware sales numbers if you want, but we wouldn’t stand behind that extrapolation.

I don't know why this false narrative is going on in the thread about how BC was viewed by many here as a "game changer", personally I don't remember anyone saying that. Is this something one of the permabanned Xbox trolls said or something? Or "oh hey MS won E3 just with BC!!" uh, who cares? Thats their opinion. We had people here who claimed Sony won E3 a couple years ago just for Shenmue 3, a fucking Kickstarter, which isn't even close to release two years later. Maybe the two or three people who maybe claimed here that MS won E3 just because of BC, actually use the shit out of BC.

Most people here understood it was nothing but awesome fan service, which is exactly what it was supposed to be. Also, this number is going to grow a lot with the awesome Xbox GamePass service :)

Wait how does a percentage means it's irrelevant??? 1.9% of billions of hour is effing huge.... And by any means well worth it... I'm sure more than a few BC games get more play time in that tiny percentage than new games...
And looking at my usage of my console lately and most of my friends such a study should be made over ta long period of time... I use my xb daily to watch Hulu or Netflix at least an hour... But I can go month without playing... Then I'll play daily cor a couple hours for a few weeks... And I noticed that trend with a lot of friends over 30...
So yeah not only do I believe those data are probably very inaccurate but even if they weren't depending on number of total hours even that small percentage is not that irrelevant...

It's 1/30 of the userbase they surveyed. That's not representative. Who knows the selection process.

Anyway, I think the BC is an excellent feauture, even if I don't use it because I still have my 360 connected, and play on there to preserve my XOne hard drive.

BC for preservation is good idea.
But yeah... Sony has said this before that their own internal data showed that historically ppl weren't really using BC services on a significant enough scale.
so not surprising to see this news.

Sony is full of shit if they said that. If it wasn't significant then they wouldn't offer it on so many platforms.

I call bullshit on the graph and MS did as well.
