Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Online announced

Am I missing something here!! How on earth is this cheap service.. $20 for a year just to play online on a console that will not see Overwatch, Destiny 2, GTA Online, rocket league or any other big multiplayer third party games??

and free games are classic games which basically doesnt cost anything to nintendo to give out.. unlike Sony and MS offering where they have to give money to developers to put it on the system for free.

How is this better than PSNOW???

Im still waiting for "certain users" to make this thread a war zone xD

What warzone? Can't you read all the comments? $20 is great value for a free service and 12 old games you cannot choose yourself. It's like a horrible humble bundle.

exactly! People even defended when Nintendo had that one classic game per month model.. Atleast on XBL and PSPlus people are getting new game experiences.. and who knows what nintendo might pick for free games for users to choose from on later stages?

Not too happy about having to pay for online but at least $20/year isn't that bad, and I'm glad they didn't go the PSN/Live route. If I wanted a bunch of random games someone else choose for me I'd pay for a Humble bundle.
But in all fairness my biggest concern was whether or not there would be enough games to take online to justify paying for a subscription. Luckily ARMS turned out to be quite good, which in addition to Mario Kart and Splatoon sealed the deal for me. Smash Bros. will arrive sometime in the near future and if Splatoon and ARMS is anything to go by there could be more online-centric games on the way.

It really does matter what the value is though.

If half the features that I'm paying for are literally unusable since I don't have a phone to use their app on... then that's terrible value!

I brought this up before. But since most games that need to played online are probally going to be played at home or where there is a WiFi hotspot. A person who has a windows phone could go and get one of the cheap android phones for $20 if they really want to use the app, I know it makes it less of a value. But you don't need to set up the cellular, by leaving the SIM card out or pulling it out,   part of the phone just set up the WiFi stuff, and the phone part will default into emergancy call only access.

Dude this is 2017, if  a company is asking me for money to pay for their service, I expect this mess to be sorted out from their end not mine, this is nintendo's liabitlity.

Again this is 2017 not 2006 where i need to setup a specific phone to do voice chat, even in 2005 xbl had this sorted out.

It's way cheaper than PSNow and PS+. Value is personal imo. It's up to the consumer to decide if the deals are worth the price. I find retro gaming way more appealing than the... mediocre games that I usually get with my PS+ subscription. So that settles the deal for me. Also, I spend a lot of time playing games like Splatoon or MK8D. I might probably buy FIFA Switch if the port is good enough.

I love how they call it a trail period when really they just can't get their shit together lol. They had to delay it till 2018 now.

Ehh, at least that means multiplayer will be free for a year

I will choose new game experiences over classic retro games which can be played for free even on a mobile phone.. so IMO i dont  think there is a novelty there system. The things you are paying for are basically free. Nintendo is asking $20 for a year to play like 5 to 6 multiplayer games online, no native voice chat, no achievement system. cloud saves, how many switch can one account have?

Oh and ask any consumer today would they choose GTA Online over bunch of SNES games.. And BTW you are right its personal opinion what we like atleast on PSplus I m paying $60 for three systems, Two Ps4 and a ps3.. and just past few months the medicore games I have gotten are God of war 3, Untill Dawn, Tearaway, LBP3, Life is strange, ABZU, Tales of Boderland, Alienation, etc and this month its Just cause 3, and Walking dead season 1. and i havent even mentioned PS3 catlogue.. All for $60, well its cheaper in asia like $50

Kinda sad to see so many Nintendo fans just fall flat on their belly instead of fighting against this injustice, like they did when it was still free. Apparently that goalpost was so lightweight, a simple swaft by Nintendo's hands was enough to move it.

Stop being annoying, everyone has already shit enough about the online situation but the fact that is at least really cheap is good news no matter how you put it, a few forum dwellers crying ain't going to change Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft plans about online subscriptions so you making a drama about it is useless.

Microsoft has a lot to answer for, or is it the gullible gaming community that also bought in Sony's 'me too' pricing model

Well Sony made it a bit better since you at least get free games, some of which where quite good like rocket league, alienation and infamous first light.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Yeah, that's personal preference. I prefer 20 years old masterpieces than a lot of modern games. Only game I've enjoyed this last year on PS+ was Soma, so that's why I decided not to pay the service anymore once I got burnt out of Overwatch XD.

I'm not a fan of emulating for free, I feel like cheating lol. So I prefer to pay a fee to do some retro gaming. 20$ a year, with online play seems about right. I'm personally willing to pay that at least. About the Switch consumer, I dunno... Nintendo games have a lot of nostalgia involved, so I can see Switch consumers paying these 20$, but let's see what happens.

I'm still waiting for some more clear info to talk about the app and voice chat. The app excites me, it could be a pretty neat tool doing right. Once Nintendo makes that clear, I'll make my mind about it.
