Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch vs Ps4 - Who will win 2017 WW

I thought they had a Super Mario Odyssey bundle? but I expect Switch sales to even out as demand for the most part has done the same. I was in Edmonton a week before Christmas this year and I seen Switches on shelves and PS4's flying off the shelves. Over herd 3 kids and 2 where talking about Fortnite and the other said he wanted a switch, the other 2 basically said pff we are into fortnite. So while that's a pretty small sample size it does tell a story. It was funny these 3 friends had to be 8-9 years old and that's typically Nintendo's bread and butter.

I know here locally Switch stock has been pretty good lately a local source has had 2 switches sitting on the shelf for 3 weeks now. The first 4-5 months they were extremely hard to find and the Xbox's are gathering dust, that same local shop got 4 Xbox One X's in and they still have 2 sitting have not had to re-order since.

As long as Sony gonna Sony in terms of consistent high plateaus and long term sales in all 3 major markets its always gonna be hard to beat them even once let alone enough yrs in a row to be truly competitive. That being said at least Nintendo tried to put up a fight although what they did this gen abandoning the wii-u to jump ship to the switch is still kinda sketchy to do too their fanbase imo.

This is funny because on one of  the biggest sales week of the year BF there were bundles of switches lying around as the ps4 slim flew off the shelves.

Anyway 2017 turned out to be an easy victory for ps4.

There were Switch bundles during BF? I don't recall that.

I said bundles of switches not switch bundles.

This was one thread of someone with high hopes... because PS4 doing its best year and Switch to reach 20M on its first year was a very high task

Have we numbers?

Switch did 10m in 9months.

PS4 did 17.2m so far this year (upto november)

Both will probably do ~2m or so in december atleast.

It *could* very well end up looking something like:

12-12,5m switch total vs 19,5-20m PS4 total this year.

So basically all those people that said the Switch would win 2017 ww sales, where wrong.

Thank you. i was too busy to respond.

If Nintendo could keep with the production it will be no contest for Switch but I don't think they can produce that many.

So what of those Switch units today? Are they still lying around?

Im going to say Switch will win, i just dont see ps4 doing as much as switch, maybe about half as good if they are lucky

Will win 2017 (as in the thread says)?

Because right now (in 2017) (upto november) its 10m Switch's to 17.2m PS4's.

Switch is gonna need a crazy good december to win 2017 sales wise.

Where is the 17.2m figure coming from by the way?

Where are we getting the 17m PS4'S again?

PS4 sales 53.4m as of January 1st 2017.

PS4 sales 70.6m as of December 3rd 2017.

so 17.2m sold this year up until December 3rd.

I would be surprised if Switch wins. The Wii sold 17 million 1st year which is what PS4 does right now. The Switch is selling 10% more now but I do not think that will be the case forever.

So I say PS4 2017
Switch will beat the PS4 every year after 2017

I believe this because I expect the PS5 to release next holiday of 2018. I know people will call me crazy but I am not! (Unless I am wrong then I am crazy)

Well I am definitely wrong about the PS5 launch. I am right about who won 2017 in terms of sales. So I will stick to my guns and say Switch will win 2018,2019 and 2020.

I knew the Switch wouldn't win with this being the launch year and only having 10 months. I expect the Switch to accelerate quickly next year just like the Wii and DS. Sales should be above 20 million next year or close to it.

Switch has zero chance to win 2018 against the PS4
