Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rime – Switch vs PS4 Picture comparison

Switch version looks much better and more rich in color. It might be settings though. All the Switch vs. PS4 comparisons are cool and all but every time I remember Switch is portable I can forgive it most of the time.

I wouldn't be shocked if this was the actual difference. Realistic lighting and effects are not objectively better than more baked, consistent design choices. Look forward to DF breakdown

cool that the switch is more colourful but i think thats going too far. way too saturated.

i'll wait for the DF comparison in case those are jsut bad captures.

Switch version is more saturated and has more contrast, according to these. Maybe to create a bolder look and make up for some missing effects?

Ps4 seems to have a bloom effect around lightspots/relexions that is missing on Switch and Shadow quality is higher (first screenshot in the backround) on Ps4 as well. It looks largely the same though.

We don't know the possible sacrifices in performance, but visually games seem to scale to the Switvh really nicely.

Whoever took those pictures washed out all the colour on the PS4 version.

I'm pretty sure that's how it normally looks on PS4, so I don't know if it's the time of day or the developers increased the saturation or something in the Switch version.

It looks alot more "Normal" in the picture you just linked from Playstation.

The picture the OP has that compairs them, is a "badly" taken picture for the PS4.

But isn't that ps4 footage from an older build? The Switch version is probably closer to the release build. You're comparing a 4month old trailer footage(probably older with the build itself) to a recent footage. Games change a lot with months of optimizations.

Looks like the Switch version is missing that ICO-filter effect. ICO is obviously their inspiration from the beginning and only the PS4 version looks like it.

It appears to be primarily a time of day difference. Seems the PS4 screens are likely from a dawn setting. Mornings tend to be more desaturated in games.

The contrast on the Switch version is a bit higher

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Do we have some actual current gameplay or are we comparing trailer shots of old and new builds here?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
