Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Paper Mario Color Splash sold better than expected. <(-_-<)

Good game, thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.

Yeah, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Obviously it can't compare to the first two games, but it is better than sticker star (which again wasn't as horrible as people make it out to be). That being said I'd still rather them go back to making them like the first 2.

Thats unfortunate. I refuse to play the series until they fix their battle system

The game looked and sounded good, but the gameplay was horrible. There were like 5 steps just to execute a basic jump attack. Absolutely ridiculous. And once again, without any kind of RPG leveling system, there was no reason to battle, save for those stupid little things to increase the amount of paint you could have. A mechanic which ALSO got old. Why can't they just go back to the original 2 games and prioritize story and unique characters and environments over trying to do something 'unique' with the battle system that nobody wants. Don't 'fix' what wasn't broken. I still blame Super Paper Mario for the direction the series has gone in. It's a shell of its former self. Miyamoto too, for telling Intelligent Systems to only have Toads as NPCs and that all other types of Mario characters had to be enemies. Cause that eliminated partners right there. Guy needs to retire, or focus ONLY on Pikmin and leave the other developers alone. And the dumb lady in charge of Paper Mario needs to understand that it would be OKAY for there to be TWO Mario RPG series. Paper Mario, and the other one, which has always ONLY been on handhelds and never quite as good as the first two Paper Mario games, which were ONLY on console.

Einsam, do you have a link to the interview or wherever they said they were dropping the Sticker Star gameplay?

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

The battle systerm is not that horrible and the game manages to be fun all the time which is the most important thing a game should do.

Well it has a boxart with a big Mario on the cover and the Wii U was suffering great droughts, so it was quite expected for it to do relatively well I guess. On the other hand, the reviews and sales of the series itself are gettin lower and that's good thing. Nintendo should take notes of this. They probably won't tho because they need to respect sensei Miyamoto's wishes even if they are complete bullshit.

''When Miyamoto-san, the father of Mario, asks us, ‘Could you make a game with only characters from the Mario family?’ I think it’s only natural for us to give it our best shot. In other words, we are not currently thinking about returning to old NPCs.'' - Kensuke Tanabe

You can feel the sadness in his words. Indirectly admitting they are stuck with the downgraded formula.

I think some people's disappointment is that the battle system lacks the fundamentals of what it originally mean to play Paper Mario, which consequently causes not to enjoy the system, because that's not what people wants from this franchise. I personally stopped playing Paper Mario after Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star because of that.

I'm surprised you're going with VGC's numbers. Especially when it's counter to what you'd hope for.

I'll continue to ignore new numbers until very detailed shipment gets posted.

If it weren't for certain mechanics in the battle/boss scenes, this could be one of my favourite Paper Marios. The graphics were gorgeous, the music was wonderfully epic, and the dialogue had those parts that made me laugh. I still enjoyed it thoroughly, it's just that at some points of the game were very tedious and discouraging.

It had some flaws, but I loved this game.

I understand that fans very invested with the traditional Paper Mario Formula may feel betrayed, but Colour Splash is a great game on its own, with a great script, wonderful art, and one of the best OST in the WiiU and some very good levels (others are not so good, sadly). It's one of my favourite games on the console
