Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSVR price cut in 2017?

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-05-09-gear-vr-far-and-away-the-leader-with-almost-7m-expected-to-be-sold-in-2017

Sony expecting 2.7m sold this year.  Does that mean a new cheaper psvr is likely to hit this year? Possibly e3 announcement

I'd be surprised if it doesn't get a price cut. Also, 2.7 million units is pretty good.

Edit: It's superdata that expects them to sell 2.7 million units, not Sony. Though Sony did recently say that they are increasing production to meet demand.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yea. Though, I expect to only be $50, to $349. $299 would definitely get it to a price that would be more mainstream, but I don't expect it this year. Maybe for Black Friday.

I think Sony needs to get the break out box components integrated into the 2100 & 7100 models this year so they can eliminate it, and simplify their system and reduce costs.

They should be able to bring the 2100 & 7100 with VR integration down to $249.99 & $349.99 MSRP for the holidays, and drop PSVR without the break out box to $299.99.

Sony needs to make VR as simple as possible, and they need to focus on expanding their userbase and extending their content beyond games and entertainment. It will be very interesting to see how they present things for the rest of the year at gaming and electronics events.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Personally I can't see it doing truly big numbers until it's $199. Probably take 2 years.

Hopefully next gen on the ps5 they re launch a new psvr for a cheaper price. That's what it needs to go mainstream.

Are there any must have games on PSVR as of right now?
Are there any games on the Horizon that could make it a system seller?

Or is the big sellpoint still just to "try this new cool console feature?"

It feels like PSVR or VR in general is in no mans land right now.

This. This way Sony actually has a chance of making the PSVR something more than a niche interest.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

From the feedback I recieved from the only person I known who owns a PSVR they need to release better controllers then the move controllers and I think the people at IGN/Beyond podcast also mentioned this.

Personally for me they need to announce multiple AAA games to concider it but I am more interested in the HTC headset for PC or to wait and see what Scorpio will support at the moment.

I meen currently there are more exclusives and the quality is better on PC hardware and I am personally not that concerned about spending more money for something like this.

Either way 2.7 seems like a long shot if they don't announce more games or lower the price so I would expect to see some VR related stuff at E3 but as mentioned above this is superdata and not sony going for this estimate and they where wrong before.

I will never understand why they compare Gear VR numbers to vive/psvr/rift, it's an empty box for your phone.
It's like comparing iphone case scales to windows phone sales.

There are plenty must have games on PSVR, unless you only like 60+ hour rpgs and AAA shooters. It's too expensive with too small a userbase for long AAA exclusives. I wonder how much the RE7 psvr mode cost. About 10% or users played it in VR, even if all those people wouldn't have bought it otherwise, 10% is a small boost for all that extra effort. Just over 200k VR users registered for RE7 for one of its biggest releases. A price cut would help. (and more stock)
