Nintendo Switch: Does docking it scratch the screen?

So, I do not have a Nintendo Switch yet. Probably will not buy it until there are like 5 must have exclusives in it.

But, I saw Michael Pachter commenting on the screen getting scratched when you dock it to play on the tv.

Simple question to the owners: is it true?

And also, how do you like it? What are you playing in it?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I don't know, but just for prevention you could purchase a tempered screen for 7-9 dollars and that's it.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I haven't seen any issues yet, though I'm also pretty careful when I slide it in. Doesn't really matter what the function is to me...seems like common sense to not slam expensive electronics down.

If I buy one, I will do this for sure. We do it for our cellphones, so, why not?

True. And, as the other guy said, there are screen protection things. I will look for them when I buy it.

Only if you like slamming or jamming it in there. It's a $300 console. Just place it with care.

True. If one day I buy one, I will probably buy a pro controler as well.

It's possible that it may gradually scratch the screen. There's some pretty easy solutions though:

-Put a Screen Protector on it (probably a good idea regardless)
-Stick a little felt inside the dock or get one of those cool dock covers (I got three myself lol, the designs are great)

Here's a great video that breaks down the Switch to investigate how durable it is, he does this for most smartphones and such:

As you can see, the screen is definitely quality but it's also prone to scratching as it's plastic rather than the more common among tablets glass (despite actually looking like glass in the hand). They made that decision not only for affordability reasons but also because it's no where near as prone to the screen cracking that you see on so many people's phones.

Basically, then, I'd highly recommend a screen cover. It's a great screen, but it's also scratchable... I haven't seen much evidence that scratching in the docks is common whatsoever, but it may happen over time.

No issues on my end.
