From what I experienced, it's far worse than on Wii U. It takes longer to the see the voted map. Sometimes up to 15 seconds of nothing happening. There are issues with getting items... Meaning, you have to wait longer and you only get mushrooms and coins for the whole course. And disconnects of course, where  you suddenly get kicked out or you find yourself only with 2 other people left in the lobby.

All of this can happen in the original as well though. :L

Sure, but I didn't had this kind of issues in the amount in which I currently have on the Switch.

Well, if they charge people extra without adding any meaningful effort into it, and people don't have an issue paying for the fee (which we will eventually see how this turns out), they have plenty to gain from; namely a good extra income of profits for the fee alone.

Thanks to the PS4 we've already seen how this turns out!

Well, yeah. It's extremely probable people won't care and simply pay the fee regardless.

Not keen enough then.

Like I said, from what I've played and seen others play, the issues are there. Even if people claim not to experience them, the issues are still there, because that's just how it is with online play, it has inherent lag even before taking connection strength into account. The signal has to travel all around the world afterall.

Soooo, are you saying that all online is like this? It seems like it. I mean, the problems you mention are problems for all online games. I think, from my experience, all systems and PC have good times and bad and vary wildly from day to day and person to person.

Which I will admit to be completely fine with personally.

I won't be paying the online fee because I don't play online in the first place, so I can only assume that this way Nintendo has more money available for making things that I would enjoy.

Playing it right now. Just ran the race of my life and got second.

Can't even get credit for it because three racers appear to be stuck. And now, the commination error. Yes! Thanks, Nintendo!

*Edit* new group. 11th place. Awesome. No error when I need one!

Except there is no mobile app or free NES game, etc. It clearly is not a full service at this time. I think you are reading too much into that statement and building a context that was not intended.

But it is the free trial for the online play. And what reason is there to not believe Nintendo means exactly what they say on this? Atleast I'm going off of what they actually said. What reason is there to believe better online play will be included along with the mobile app and NES games? Nintendo did not say or imply this, so I don't know where people are getting this misconception from.

Pretty much, these are just the inherent flaws of online play, no one is above the fact that the signal must travel across the world. I'm not sure if there's really much more Nintendo can reasonably do about it even if they actually wanted to.

I would be patient. Most games usually have online problems when they just come out, MK8D is no exception, especially with how much the game sold, I don't think Nintendo was expecting this much online activity.Give them some time and they might be able to stabilize the servers.

I was also thinking that this might be a marketing ploy to make their online infrastructure look like shit. That way when the online subscription starts they can claim those funds are going towards improving online servers.

so are the people having problems with the wifi or hard line connections? I haven't played the game yet due to personal matters but I wonder if it's a wifi problem

My Switch is connected by WiFi and I definitely have issues. After the second round of connection errors, I quit.

My router is in my game room on the west end of my home where six home consoles (three using WiFi and three wired) rest. In the living room midway through my home is a PS4 and Xbox One using WiFi.

On the opposite end of my home is The bedroom with another Xbox One using WiFi.

Despite being about three feet from the router, the Switch never registers a full four bars connection. It responds fast enough, though. Watching videos on the Switch is super fast. The issue COULD be the WiFi but I'm more confident that it's just Nintendo's online service. The other consoles work fine--even my portables but my Nintendo consoles have always had issues.

*to reduce stress on my network, I do turn my other devices off when not in use

Thats just it, i've had issues with nintendo's wifi since the wii so I got the wii ethernet adapter on ebay for like 8-9 bucks way back and have used it throughout wii u's life and is now on the switch, haven't had network issues since I changed it for Monster Hunter Tri where I went from disconnecting all the time to never disconnecting back on wii.
