I just copy and pasted the article, those are not my words.

Can you provide me with the correct data? I'll update the OP.

5GB for the PS4. 5.5GB for the PS4 Pro. www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2016/10/21/13358416/ps4-pro-extra-ram-memory

Thanks for that, updated the OP

Why does it say the XBox One has 3 gb availalbe in games? It has 5GB available in games right now and this will be increased in the next update that is rolling out because they are freeing up some memory.

I think you reversed the knowledge availalbe right now the official story --> "5GB of the Xbox One's 8GB is available to games developers, meaning in effect the Xbox One has 3GB of the RAM reserved for the operating system"

You can google this every website confirmes this lol. ALso look at a few posts earlier I listed all memory speeds, its very important

Here is Mike Ybarra confirming they are freeing up more memory (it will become 5.5GB on base and xbox one S models) -->

PS2, Gcube had very simplistic OS. And i liked it!
The overly functionized OSs from PS3 and PS4 with tons of apps and stuff to do, that i never use. And those ads everywhere. Its an commercialised nightmare. Stupid pictures of stupid people having fun with theyr gay Singstars.
Not so bright future ahead!

I fix something but mess up another... fuck. It was 5GB in the original article and post... updated yet again. Thanks!

Does anyone have the 3DS and Vita data for memory usage and speed? That would be nice for the comparison too.

The only information I could glean was that the Vita had freed up "30%" more memory with a firmware update, not what the OS footprint actually was.
It would be safe to assume it's around 128MB though. Could be less. Could be more.

I did find out that the 512MB of system memory is actually LPDDR2.
The 128MB of "VRAM" is a wide SD RAM, with roughly 4x the bandwidth of the LPDDR2.

Also. The Xbox One and Xbox One S both have 5GB of Ram available for games right now. 5.5GB for both in the future.

***

The Switch doesn't have any extra hidden memory.

The Switch's bandwidth is actually 25.6GB/s whilst docked or if a developer chooses to use the full 1600mhz memory speed whilst portable.
Otherwise portable mode it is 1331mhz (As per-digital foundry). Which would result in 21.2GB/s of bandwidth.

***

The 3DS Reserves 32MB for the OS.

***

The new 3DS reserves 64MB for the OS.

Noob question here: Doesn't the Tegra X1 have 4xCortex-A57 + 4xCortex-A53? Why isn't the A53 quadcores used for the OS?

Yes from what I understand its a big+little chip, so it has 4 big cores, and 4 weak cores.

I dont understand why nintendo didnt just make use of say 1 or 2 of the weak cores for the OS, so they could have more CPU for gameing, with a extra BIG core for that.

Bare in mind the system just came out. Later on, the OS will likely be moved to the smaller cores in updates.
Hopefully we can see a 30% improvement in CPU performance and a 10 - 20% improvement in RAM usage.

According to Eurogamers article developers can no longer choose to use 1600mhz Ram Speed in portable mode anymore.

"Additionally, adjustments have been made to available memory bandwidth. In our prior story, we revealed that in undocked mode, developers could choose between running the LPDDR4 memory at either 1600MHz or 1331.2MHz. The 1600MHz option is now only available in 'boost mode' - when Switch is docked - while 1600MHz support in mobile mode is deprecated." (source)

Ah good to know. Thanks for the correction!

there is a mistakes boys, X1 is using only 1 core for Os since 2 years now and has 5gb ddr 3 @ 2133mhz + 32mb esram for games X1s has 36mb esram because of upscaling to 4k.....
the ps4 is using 1 core for the os since 1 year, so the ps4 got the "upgrade" of using 1 core for os 1 year after the X1 and both systems using 3GB Ram for their os, the ps4 uses ddr5 @ ???? the X1 ddr3/4 @2133 mhz.....( so its ddr3 but with the same speed as some ddr4 modules)

pls lookout for facts also if you are a fanboy

@ topic if the switch has 3gb of ram combined with 3 cores for games its absolutly ok for a nintendo console! mario kart will look great xD
