Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Breath of the wild runs better on portable mode (digital foundry)

Good for portable users like me, bad for those who are going to play docked.

Honestly doesn't look like a hardware issue, I think it's an optimization issue cause this port was rushed for the release day. Hopefully there's a patch to fix this cause when it comes to Nintendo I don't care about next gen graphics, because their performance is flawless 99% of the time, but bad framerates is not a thing that I expect from Nintendo. Thankfully portable mode is butterly smooth.

It's all part of Nintendo's marketing tactics! They're trying to force people to use it as a portable so that they might bring it on the go with them, so others will see it and want to buy it!

Well this is pretty depressing. I have little interest in the Switch as a handheld, so when i get one and play BotW it'll be in docked mode. 900p i can handle, it'll irritate me sometimes but it won't stop me enjoying what looks like a fantastic game. Prolonged dips to 20fps as well though? That i'm not okay with.

If they don't patch it i'll probably pick up a WiiU copy and wait for Cemu. I'd really rather not do that though; for all my bitching about the Switch as a piece of hardware, i would like to see it succeed if only because Nintendo make great games. There's a limit to how far i'm willing to bend my own general standards when it involves buying new hardware though.

Having watched that video - that is really strange.
The docked mode dropping down to as low as 20 FPS.

I'm curious about their video about the wii U version now.

edit: well now I'm curious about the reviews themselves. Were they on the portable version or the docked version?

Do the reviews mention the difference at all?

they mention the framerate drops, the problem is mostly on the plateau, then it drops in rare occasions.

The reviews mentioned them, or the video you just linked too?

reviews, all the reviews say something like "despite some technical issues with the frame rate, the game is bla bla bla etc etc etc"

That doesn't make any sense. It should be the other way around! 😑

And people were believing thé journalists reporting Big framerate issues were exagérating...

If éven thé best version has some troubles to not drop at 20fps in TV mode.... Well lets wait for their Zelda WiiU test.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Wow. The portable mode is pristine.
