Forums - Gaming Discussion - Switch battery life: 2h 48m when playing Zelda

Zelda is probably one of the most demanding game Switch will receive. And it was at default lighting.

Considering its a launch title you should hope not.  You expect games in a few years to be more advanced then launch Titles.

OT: that seems really short

TBH it probably will. Demanding doesn't mean best looking or best optimised. A single look at the Switch line up shows that games on the scope of BOTW will probably not be common and I don't think we'll see any coming from third parties sans Skyrim.

Nintendo should really consider a 540p "energy saver" option, seeing as all devs seem to be aiming for 720p on the handheld. 540p looks great on the Vita and the Switch's screen is only 1" bigger.

I'm fine with that, I'm usually never away from an outlet for more than 2 hours anyway. And when I am, I'm not playing games anyway.

If it takes 6 hours to charge and 3 hours to drain, will it go dead eventually while docked on a long gaming session on the TV?

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Really? I remember playing Smash4 on my way home from the college, which is a 3 and a half hours trip, and the 3DS didn't reach home alive XD. Unless there's a massive improvement in battery life from 3DS to the N3DS, which can explain the difference. Either way, I don't usually game more than 1,2 hours on a trip without feeling dizzy, so battery life suits me. I can understand the criticism though.

There is a massive improvement, on an original 3ds many games are around 3-4 hours, same as PSVita where Uncharted lasts about 3.3 hours

Okay, that makes the difference then. I still think it's not that bad fo an open-world like Zelda though. I'm less concerned about battery life on the Switch actually, because of the possibility of buying portable batteries, which are nowadays not really expensive.

Nope, as far as I know. The only "problem" is the Joy-cons. But they last 20 hours, so unless you plan to game an entire day is a not-issue.

Just don't play it for 3 hours straight. It's unhealthy.

I mean I play games for 8 hours straight on weekends lol

Since the battery is not replaceable, you will have to wait for Switch mini or New Nintendo Switch to fix that problem.

And this is news how? Nintendo already said it was 2.5 hours for breath of the wild in January, I guess that means there was an improvement in optimization. And the average battery life for games would be in 3-to-6 hour range depending on how "demanding" the game was on the system.

As for the question on the system dying on the cradle the answer is no. There is circuitry that switches the system to use only A/C power when plugged in. Laptop, cars, etc all have this where if there is an A/C current available the battery will only charge and most of the system will run on A/C because Laptops would die when plugged in if this wasn't true. Playing 3D games on laptop drain the battery in less than 2 hours and most batteries take longer than that to charge.

Is only 12 minutes less than what they said, is probably 3 hours if you are using headphones and/or you have the bright at medium, I mean that's the time you need to see the entire Goodfather film with credits included, I think is enough for Zelda xD But yeah portable battery is always an option if you need to do very long travels or something.

So PSP/3DS battery life, eh? Could be better but based on how much I've enjoyed those consoles, it's not too bad.
