Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: Microsoft should delay Scorpio until Holiday 2018 and call it Xbox 2

Scorpio needs to ripe 1 more year and become the start of a new gen, a real Xbox 2, a fresh new start without the stain of XboxOne. 5 years since Xbone is long enough of a time to start anew. Basically 1 year head start on Sony, worked for 360.

-All new exclusives that take advantage of the increased power and ram. 4.00 Ghz Ryzen, 10TF Navi GPU, 16GB HBM2 ram.

Launch titles like Ryse 2 that blow every PS4 game out of the water.

-Fully Backwards Compatible with XB1 since it's essentially still Scorpio but more powerful and with exclusive games. Also BC with the patched 360 games available now.

-Runs Windows OS, able to run Steam, and 20 years of gaming

Go all out at E3 2018 announcing Conker 2, Lost Odyssey 2, Fable 4, Banjo Threeie, Fohza Horizon 4, Perfect Dark sequel, a Japanese exclusive here and there. New take on old IPs: Halo RPG in the vein of Mass Effect, horror game in Gears universe

This is how they'll captivate the hardcore. Much wanted games, colorful variety, timely released powerful console. They should stop trying to fix XB1 and stay attached to it.

This is my wishful thinking, I would be all over Xbox with those games. Og Xbox and early years of 360 had a unique feel to them with a diverse library, I've missed that about the Xbox brand ever since Natal (Kinect).

Microsoft has the trump card to make a comeback again, not only would Xbox 2 in 2018 cut sales of PS4 prematurely, it'd also damage PS5 by taking in the CoD/BF/Fifa crowd early like 360.

Unfortunately by being 2 years earlier than PS5, there will be a bigger graphical difference. Scorpio in 2017 also won't launch as a new Xbox 2 with its own exclusive games. It's basically gonna be XB1 in 4K.

yeah... thats not gonna happen.

Though I do believe this is Microsoft's next-gen console in a sense, they themselves say they're no longer doing generations. This saves time and money like developing new peripherals and whatnot so they can just concentrate on the guts of the system. If people want those kinds of games you're saying, they have to start buying the ones out right now. MS is starting to be risk averse due to big first party titles underperforming or getting ignored altogether,

Scorpio will do fine enough being the most powerful console on the market for however long that is. Then again, E3's not here yet, so there's no telling what their full plan for this system is yet. But delaying the system now would reek of panic mode.

Nah, Microsoft's strategy looks like they'll put out dumbed down PCs every three to four years to appease the console gaming market while none of their games are going to be Xbox-exclusive anymore. Microsoft has no reason to heavily push Xbox, so they bring together what they teared apart about 15 years ago. PC and Xbox it is from here on out.

This strategy will put more pressure on Sony than anything else Microsoft could come up with. Sony has already launched PS4 Pro because they realize that they need to defend themselves against proper PC gaming and thus need more regular hardware refreshes.

What I just proposed will have the Xbox 2 still be a PC. Xbox is just a marketing name to the +150 million market that buys consoles.

Scorpio won't put a dent in Sony's plans. It's "a new console, but not really", and without exclusive games, it's a cannon without balls. Sony figured the formula to be nr1 is exclusives+good hardware. They're on a 3 yearly schedule now, not bound to legacy hardware, giving us both HW upgrades, ecosystem BC and traditional gens. MS is really gonna miss the boat with their rebellious "no muh genz" attitude. Sooner or later they'll face a brand new PS5, whether its Scorpio or Scorpio 2 years from now, they're missing the sweet spot to migrate current gen gamers. 2017 too early/no own games, after PS5: DOA

As an early adopter on the Pro, this sounds like a welcome idea just to make sure it doesn't feel short-lived....but to hell with that i'm ready to see the refinements Scorpio's extra powah brings, buying superior versions of console multiplats to play on that sweet Elite controller. If anything, bring it on sooner!

I agree. If they are really interested in console gaming, they need to go all out with Scorpio by starting a new gen and having head start and also have exclusives, new IP. Scorpio specs are being wasted with higher resolution. It will get half hearted support like PS4P. Having 2yrs lead to PS5 will definitely help them and they can then undercut PS5 price and sell Scorpio for 300$ and still be competitive.

Otherwise I do not think Scorpio is going to make any difference. PS4S and PS4P which I think might be 100$ cheaper to Scorpio is going to dominate.

If they do that they better bring a better console than the currently speculated specs.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

At this point, it's more about perception than specs after how much Microsoft effed up at the beginning of this gen. Because of both the PS4 and PS4 Pro, Microsoft needs the the Scorpio this generation to stay somewhat relevant or look competitive. Otherwise, they'd be "left behind." If they were to delay the Scorpio as a next gen console, the Scorpio will be seen as this gen's vaporware, hurting their credibility even further. Plus, look what they did to the original Xbox when the 360 came out. Microsoft pretty much gave Xbox users the finger. It won't be as bad this time around, but abandoning their efforts for this gen in favor of next gen at this point will show it's more about them and not the gamer.
