Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Reveals Groundbreaking VR Game ‘Starship Commander’

Microsoft has just unveiled a new VR game from upstart Human Interact that looks to be one of the most immersive VR games to date. Players take the roll of a Starship Commander as they try to win over the galaxy. Wearing a VR headset, not only are players put in the captain’s seat, but they also talk to allies and enemies and what is said influences the game. Two videos were released revealing the Oculus/Steam VR game; the first shows off the first gameplay and the second is a behind the scenes look at the development.

Check them out below:

Groundbreaking is a bit of a stretch. Isn't this like the Star Trek game? Also would like so see actual gameplay.

Microsoft hopes to break new ground with their in-development VR game, Starship Commander

doesn't look like this is actually from "Microsoft", but from an indie game dev using Microsoft speech recognition software

I'd expect MS to do something for their own VR HMD line-up they announced last year

Do you do anything else besides say something at choice points? Perhaps the videos don't show all, but it seems an extremely linear dragon's lair type experience with voice control.

Anyway groundbreaking? Elite Dangerous supports speech recognition since 2014

Not groundbreaking sorry!

Oh Microsoft, will you ever learn about over-hyping stuff?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Milo!

It's Microsoft, man. Hype sells.

I need to see more, but voice recognition is something that will really do well in VR.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Hype sells, it's a space exploration game...

Is this just the code name for no man's sky 2?

The PC has supported voice-recognition for the last 20-odd years.
You could even map certain voice lines to input for games.

But that's a hack-and-bolt solution, not something elegant. With that said, using voice to augment your controller/keyboard/mouse is awesome, Wish more games would do it... That was actually one of the best things about Kinect, the voice commands.
