Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sun/Moon numbers a proof Nintendo should continue release games on 3DS

Pokémon Sun and Moon could barely run on the 3DS as it is, they had to strip down a lot of features because of it to the point I don't want another Pokémon game on 3DS's extremely limited hardware. Though a duel Switch and 3DS release could seem likely if they water down the 3DS version enough. Though one thing I am certain of and that's gen 7 is the last generation for the 3DS and that gen 8 will be on the Switch.

regardless of what you WANT, the OP's point that the 3DS software sales can still be pretty killer is fairly accurate. The system itself also, hardware wise, is somehow selling as well as it ever has now.

Nintendo probably will release another Pokemon on it, maybe a downgraded one on the 3DS and an enhanced on the Switch.

Not saying its the best move strategically or not but the concept that Nintendo is going to stop producing for the 3DS in the next year or two, with how conservative they are, is absurd. looking at sales

I would like to point out that Nintendo first and foremost wants to sell hardware and the 3DS sales numbers are past their prime no Gen 8 or Stars will only really appeal to 3DS owners at this point and not increase the 3DS that much since most people who are interested in Pokemon already have a 3DS.

The longer 3DS remains alive, the worse Switch will sell.

If they don't kill 3DS soon, Switch will be another Wii U.

If they're worried about Switch not selling, all they have to do is release Pokemon exclusive on it, that alone will guarantee its success. Of course, they'll take the coward's way out and keep putting Pokemon on 3DS, thus crippling Switch.

Come on, do you really think the next pokemon gen is gonna be on 3ds? That's all kinds of wrong, worst scenario will be the third installment of this gen (Stars) on 3ds, but the next gen? Not a chance.

I think it's more so that Pokemon sells very well, overall. Nintendo and GF should really make the next mainline pokemon game on the Switch to help boost the sales of the console.

The only things this tells us is that Pokémon is hot right now. A test for the 3DS would be sales of a game without a big time licensed name attached.

I sincerely hope the next gen of Pokemon is Switch exclusive, but I can easily see Nintendo being too chicken to let go of their 3DS audience.

The problem though is that they absolutely need new hardware if they want gen 8 to be even a bit more  ambitous and and slightly biggerthen Sun and Moon. Since anyone who has played the game can that game pushed the 3DS to its absolute limit and even had to cut features like tripple and rotation battles, and Pokemon following behind you (this was proven through a datamine since walking animations for all Pokemon including Shinies and Megas were found in the files of Sun and Moon) since the 3DS couldn't handled them. Gamefreak has no choice but to bring Pokemon to the Switch moving forward if they want to even try and make bigger and better games.

Honestly this kind of fear is so irrational xD Who is expecting a new pokemon for 3DS in 2019/2020? It doesn't make any sense.

We all know that they still have a lot of games for the 3ds this year... Ever Oasis, Lady Layton, Miitopia (probably)
And there´s nothing surprising about that. The DS still got some new games even after the launch of the 3ds - including Pokemon (BW2)
Of course, they will focus all their production on the Switch, but at least until the end of this year, they still will be launching games for the 3ds.

I absolutely think they should keep releasing games for the 3ds for two more years, I'm so glad they are bringing big games life fire Emblem echoes and warriors, Pikmin, ever oasis, and I hope they're also interested in bringing yokai watch 3, the alliance alive, that level 5game with the gang of warriors that I forgot the name, and specially both dragon Quest X and XI, well actually lost my hope on X but I still can dream! I think at least for this year, the 3ds is very healthy. And if a successor is to come, I hope they don't drop the 3d idea, I love how games look in 3d!
