If you want to walk down the same hallway over and over again, feeling like you have to take a shit because you're so nervous, then yes. It fills that niche.

Yesssssssss!

Managed to finish it yesterday. I think this has become my favourite resi game of all time. Does anyone else think it was short?

Yes, it was short, cause it was so awesome in VR. I would have really liked the mine/cave section to last a lot longer than it did. It probably will on MadHouse difficulty as I was comfortably stocked up on normal by then and could blast my way through no problem. On madhouse I probably won't even be able to carry that much ammo, those inventory space backpacks seem to be much less frequent, only 1 so far.

How long did it take you? I completed my first playthrough in 13h10. According to ReNet I have already logged close to 26 hours in game time since release, walked 70km, 109 kills, 59 deaths (most from Mia at 10), opened 963 doors, closed 134 and examined the bra 3 times lol. I'm not even halfway yet on Madhouse, it's taking a lot longer.

92k VR users currently of 980k total registered users. I'm playing it a bit much I think. I went to bed right after another 3 hour session, closed my eyes, and was right back in the house... The after images looked pretty convincing.

Man, I wish I could get into the horror games. If only I didn't have a heart attack every single time I played one.

They should do some non-horror games with this level of imersion. Like a forensic investigation police drama, but with no horror elements.

A first person game in the style of LA Noire would be good. Or actually, take the good parts of Deadly Premonition, LA Noire, and, Resident Evil and you've got a potentially great game.

I did the next best thing and used gearvr and tridef3d with trinus vr on PC lol, it was definitely more interesting than just playing it on a monitor or TV

RE7 on MadHouse in VR is close to the best gaming experience I've ever had. It's so intense, it can be frustrating at times but it's so rewarding and being in the world makes having to replay the same section over and over a non issue. Only the long reload times are a bit annoying.

Btw, playing a video tape is not safe. I figured to play the Mia tape before saving (using up a tape) after completing a difficult double fight that took 6 attempts. You get caught in the tape, tough luck, back to the last save instead of being booted out of the tape sequence... So that was another 4 attempts to get past that fight again lol.

It doesn't matter, walking around is a delight already.

The hardest fight yet was in the boat house against mutated Jack
It seemed I was getting nowhere so I had to change tactics, stop trying to avoid, dig in, go on the offensive. Still didn't work. It started to get frustrating so I hit record to tape my 12th failure at it. That helped! Finally made it.

Then a chance to get up close and personal with the character models. That feels intense too getting that close in VR.

VR is the best way to play games.

yeah its the best game this in when played in vr. Every true gamer needs to play it in vr and he will agree.

It is intense. I love Horrogames which is why I bought myself an Oculus Rift. And to this day I have not completed some of the horror games I have because its too intense.

I cant even imagine how I will react once we have 130 degree FOV and 4k per eye. Everything will look so much more realistic and plastic.

I actually can deal with Horror if I have something to defend myself with. A gun for example. But if I am helpless like in Dreadhalls and my only weapon is to run I am starting to really get an Adrenaline rush.

I really envy PSVR guys that can play RE7. Hope VR mode comes soon to the PC too.

To people who have played both PT and RE7: If I am constantly tempted to /wrists over the cancellation of Silent Hills, will RE7 and VR make me whole again?

Hard to say how PT/Silent Hills would have turned out.  Early on RE7 has elements of tension and horror, but once you get weapons it takes on a different style.  Think of old RE titles of resource management than pure helplessness like Amnesia makes you feel.

All great games for what they offer.

I made it through Madhouse difficulty in VR, in just over 20 hours. The stats state less then 14 hours, but those don't take manual reloading into account for better results with less resources lost, trying different crafted ammo, or turning it off after an hour of failed attempts and continuing at a later time.

The last fight against 2 fat molded (not the last fight in the game) is one of the hardest things I've encountered in games in a long time. The half minute reload and having to run all the way back for several minutes didn't help.

I recorded my last 5 attempts and stitched them together

Apologies for swearing during the 3rd attempt when reloading the gun failed again (did not notice the interupt again). I didn't know psvr records your voice too by default lol. I edited out the worse profanities during the game over screens :$ My controller survived RE7! It took almost 2 hours all added up together to get past this point.

Ofcourse the same day I finally make it, Eurogamer posts a knife only run on Madhouse in 3.5 hours....

I'll have to do it again if I want to get the platinum as I didn't find all the coins yet. However completing it on MadHouse unlocked infinite ammo, plus I'm doing a speedrun on easy now for the under 4 hour mark which should unlock the fast running shoes. And there's still an extra Essence of defense scroll to unlock that will help. I'm already nearly halfway on my speedrun after 1h30, not using medkits or the item box. So easy now after madhouse, you can outrun everything on easy!

Best game since Half Life thanks to PSVR, can't stop playing it.
