I don't really get this. Sure some people may be a bit hard headed about their political beliefs but that doesn't mean it's ok to try and shame or mock them. Just give evidence that counters what they think to be true and if they still persist either ignore them or if they've gone too far with it and are breaking site rules then report them.

If only facts could counter "what they think to be true". If only ignoring them didn't affect us and future generations. A video game website is one place we can engage them outside their Echo chamber.

This seems like a strange position to take. Political threads, by their nature, often devolve into total BS. To moderate that out of existence eliminates the whole point of the threads.

I propose another solution: eliminate politic threads from this gaming site.

You want people to be shamed or ridiculed just because they choose to believe something else than you? 

In this case you're saying that you think what they believe isn't true, where as from their perspective what you're saying isn't true either, even if there is 'facts' that you're saying that prove your case, those people may not believe those facts or consider them to be wrong. It goes both ways. 

If what you're saying is that they shouldn't blindly believe what anyone says then sure, I can agree with that. Nobody should ever blindly agree with what someone says even if they look up to them or support them. 

But ridiculing and shaming isn't the way to go about opening someone up to discussing it or trying to have a reasonable discussion about the topic. What incentive would someone ever have for looking at your point of view on something when all you've done is attack them? That will only make someone double down on what they think because people are attacking them for it. It's attitudes like that which are why Trump won.

Yes, my tact is Harsh. But we need critical thinking which requires us to agree on an Arbiter of facts. Whether that be Dow Jones Industrial Average or photos of the mall during inaugurations. Neutrality is to blame for Trump's victory. When 99% of climatologist agree on a fact but 1% disagree our media treats that a 50/50. That is not science. I don't want to leave these decisions up to public opinion.

I'm not sure I like the hiding idea myself because it's probably really going to kill all politics discussion, but other than that, it seems like a decent idea. I think it would be better to moderate politics discussions somehow better, but I'm not really sure how.

I got the script.  It doesn't hide them though. It just makes them a soft gray. The color of something that is "deactivated" (yet can still be clicked on).

Now when I look at the front page I can immediately go "eww" and I see half of it is taken up by politicsl as opposed to reading through the options and constantly seeing political threads.

So in that regard its nice.

You can modify it quite easily to fully hide them. I added a simple configuration section with instructions. Unfortunately there's no easy way to add settings to userscripts, so the best I could do was to add a simple configuration section to the script itself.

If we're talking about the same person, I think he was banned for a few days, and he admitted to joking. Perhaps it's a different person then?
