On the device that it was published on, yes.  I'm not understanding your problem.  A Microsoft Studios executive once referred to Dead Rising as a first party title.

Ok... I'm done here. Holy shit. xD

Yeah, I guess you are.  You seem like someone who thinks terms like "first-party" were made up by fans but that's just ignorance.  They weren't.  It's an industry term.  From a publisher's perspective, anything they hold rights to, they consider "first party".  No one can come along and publish Minecraft on the Vita, for example.  Do you know why?  Because Sony holds the rights via agreement.

I honestly don't know why this is difficult for you to understand.  Regardless, I'll pass on to Microsoft that you think you know more than they do about publishing.

When i first clicked on this thread i was thinking you were going to say they're the same because they hardly release new IPs and just keep pushing the same franchises out.

The thread is very specific about the subject being games made by first parties...

So... Maybe try to keep up?

Ratchet and Clank aren't first party games. Doesn't mean that they shouldn't be part of the discussion

Sony owns the IP, but it's made by a third party studio.

And that's obviously what the OP had in mind, right? Minecraft is a good Sony first party game, a good Nintendo first party game, and a good Microsoft first party game. A game developed by a studio owned by Microsoft. That makes so much sense. Just like your claim about Nioh being both a third and first party game. "Published by" /= first party.

The Last Guardian is a sequal...

With what your saying, than Forza Horizon 3 is the same game as Forza Motorsport 6 because Forza is in its name when clearly there not. A name of a game doesn't mean anything

So by your logic, The Last of Us is a sequel to Uncharted...

No there not. You would be stupid to think thats a sequel. My point is if a game is based in the same universe as its previous game than its related and can either be a prequel, Sequel or another view.

Nice try though.

So cinematic experiences like DriveClub, inFamous, GT: Sport, God of War, Gravity Rush 2, Knack, Dreams, Horizon, MLB, Hot Shots Golf, The Last Guardian, Days Gone can't top MS vaulted first party of Gears, Halo, Forza, Sea of Thieves & Crackdown?

MS first party has been subpar this gen, there is simply no way around it, the only new IP coming out is Sea of Thieves. Halo + Gears are not even made by the original developers, don't know why we'd give MS first party a ton of credit, as both games are underperforming sales wise & have seen their lowest metascore for the mainline games. MS has not created many exciting IP's on their own IN THREE GENS. How this reminds you of Nintendo, well, that is a mystery.

What? Does that even matter when the core game is intact?

Gears is made by the same person that envisioned the mechanics of the first one. You wouldn't know that though.

People give MS first party ton of credit because they emphasize a lot on gameplay. They have fantastic MP games for every genre they're on, not every publisher can say that.

Original developers is not one person.

MS first party offerings for three gens have been poor. That's the bigger picture the majority of XOne users here ignore. Forza has been their only internal project that has reached commercial + critical success.

Gears + Halo are bought & so is Minecraft. So basically, three of the biggest IP's MS own, do not originate from their internal studios. The same can't be said about Sony or Nintendo.

Also, before the "Sony bought __________ so doesn't that count as third party?" rebuttal comes around, Sony Japan, PD, Santa Monica, Sony London, GG, among closed studios like Zipper, had critical + commercial successes, and they were all internally constructed studios.

Even for the 360 the majority of criticially praised (*timed) + successful exclusives were third party: Halo, Gears, ME, Bioshock, L4D, Fable. MS, without third party exclusives, just don't have an appealing exclusive lineup, for any gen they've competed in.

Where was it ever claimed that The Last Guardian takes place in or is based on the same universe as SOTC and Ico?

Why're you ignoring my post?
