Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 PRO suffering major shortages in Asia and EU regions.

Just reading through gaf,  it looks like Sony shipped enough to the UK and USA but underestimated demand almost everywhere else. Here are some interesting quotes.

Thought this thread was silly until I went out looking for a PS4 Pro myself today, since it's being sold for high above the actual price on Amazon JP. Went to my local mom and pop game shop, and was disappointed to find it was randomly closed for the day. Went over to Geo, and it was sold out.

I want to buy one by tomorrow. Where should I go that would be absolutely sure to have it in stock?"

"Can't find it anywhere here in Taiwan, either"

"I am in Tokyo and I can't find the pro anywhere for my colleagues. Luckily I've got the deal from amazon back in Black Friday :p"

"maybe sony got some delivery difficulties, german amazon has no ps4 pro in stock

"Interestingly, I just bought a PS4 Pro in Osaka last week, over at BIC Camera in Dotonburi. I think there was 4 or so units left. Still a far cry better than my home country of Malaysia, which is back-ordered all the way to MARCH."

"you sure about this? Nowhere to be found in my country."

"It was sold out in Thailand too, I had to pay scalpers price an extra 2,000b on top, about an extra $60. This was early December when we were told no new units until the new year."

"I think it's also still sold out in Singapore. Basically they under shipped it and the advertising was all focused on the Slim."

Now is not the time to build momentum for the Pro, now is the time to sell a mass market console while PS4 games are pouring in and XB1 games are thin on the ground. Promote the Pro closer to release of the Scorpio.

The PS5 Exists.

I noticed this too and did some investigating. PS4 seems to be sold out in many places, shipments are expected in 1-2 weeks and price has gone up 10-20€ in most places. This combined with anecdotal reports all over the globe seems to point that PS4 Pro is selling really well and beating Sony's expectations.

If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Should've made it longer.

Anecdotal evidence from NeoGAF shouldn't be a thread on VGC.

Especially when anecdotal evidence on VGC suggests it flopped!

How do you feel about threads based on tweets and retweets?

Specifically tweets that are announcing that soon there will be an announcement. And retweets where someone writes an entire article about it because someone liked, favorited, or retweeted someone elses comment.

Those things have more substance than this thread, because the tweets are at least coming from people who have a name.

But when it comes to anecdotal evidence, you can ask VGC members because they aren't inferior to the GAF community in any way.

I'm in Colombia, all my sony fans friends got theirs day one, is on stock on every store... and yes Rol is rigth anecdotal evidence on gaf to do a thread?? lol why don't ask someone from vgchartz?

34 years playing games.

It doesn`t mean much whitout actual number. Sony could be creating an artificial shortage to make it looks like the product is on demand and create desire in the consumer.

But considering this is true and Sony isn`t creating artifical shortage, this proves how mid-gen updates are welcome and the "smartphonization" of gaming consoles isn`t bad at all. If Sony manage the systems they could be creating a way to have their install base always big. Instead throwing away all the base they built with PS4 when lauching PS5, they can create tiers, where a game made for PS5 will run perfect on it, with some limitations on PS4 Pro and with many limitations in PS4 or not at all.

This is a good way to a) keep your current userbase being able to purchase game, so vastly increasing reach of games b) making things easier for developers, since for this model to work Sony needs to stick to a single archtecture so developer can get very efficient with it overtime c) keep the gaming library compatible with all the hardware, kinda like the first topic, but on opposite side, newer games may not play on older hardware, but older games will always play on newer hardware. Take phones for example, if I bought an gamefor my iPhone 3GS back in the day there`s no reason this game can`t run on my brand new iPhone 7.

If you were also a fan of getting rid of those I would have supported you for mod.

Threads based on retweeted and "announcements of announcements" are the absolute worst imo.

Threads about tweets would need to be judged on a case by case basis, because there are cases that do have a right to exist. Anecdotal evidence from another forum, however, can safely be brushed off as something that shouldn't be turned into a thread here.

I agree with Rol here. Unless it's a trusted insider on gaf, it's a little annoying when people put too much weight on something just because it was said at gaf.

Edit: Having read the thread, this does have some weight to it because it's a collection on users form different countries expressing their experiences. Shouldn't be taken super serious of course.

This is purely anecdotal as far as general supply goes, but around where i live (south west london) finding a PS4 Pro was an absolute nightmare. Wanted to get one as a gift, but they were sold out on Amazon UK so we decided to drive into town. We tried Tesco, Game, John Lewis, Argos, Sainsburys, you name it. We eventually did find one at a HMV of all places, but lord that was a long day.

While I can understand there's not much depth in a few random opinions, however when you take into account the rumors from Japan that PS4 Pro has been supply constrained since the launch then I think there's something to speculate.

Pro wasn't aimed at japanese market, the pricing already proves that and still Pro is being sold out. Now you have to ask if the Pro has been sold out week after week for months, why the hell hasn't Sony reacted? Did Sony just say fuck it and let the holidays go to waste? I don't think so. It could be the worldwide demand is so high that Sony couldn't afford to allocate more Pro to Japan.

Like I said this is just speculation, maybe it is, maybe not...
