OK, but what do you generally talk about in the Discord thread? Is it welcoming to people who want to join, or is it mainly a closed group that's hostile to new members?

Depends on the user, usually welcoming. Even users that don't get along, do usually tolerate one another. Honestly speaking 95% of this site would be welcomed, and I don't think you fall in the other 5%.

We shit talk everyone and everything jk . Um... we talk sex, women, men, video games, sports (WWE LOL), if you join NSFW we got some user fetish friendly posters. Um. Wright argues sometimes, I drive by troll Xbox. Right now it's Persona talk in sony thread, duno about nintendo channel, have that muted. 

It depends on the user to be honest. You seem cool, so i think you'd be welcome. It can get wild and somewhat offensive, so if that's not for you, might not be the best place. Someone joined from outside VGC and she's cool. As long as you're not a dick, we're all pretty jokey and get along well.

It's a small group of people that mostly talk. There are a good amount of inactives. 

I know a decent amount of some of the more active mods are in it as well.
