The problem is that this all looks like it'll go downhill with trump as offense

I don't care if I get modded. He's a moron and has the most retarded cabinet I've ever seen( the vice president isn't any better)

It's irritating when you constantly see promise after promise, politician after politician that provides nothing to solve many of the issues we see in America and palestine/israel. Heck, why do American politicians care so much for israel? We have enough issues here...

Don't want to get off topic though. 2016 was a decent year altogether. The economy seems to improve, especially in japan, so im hoping it stays like that.

As for celebrities, I could care less. I only care if someone like Nelson Mandella dies.

I don't want to provide the typical "oh no trump will doom the world!" argument, but I seriously don't see anything good coming out of his presidency. Promises to tear up crucial contracts is far from ok. Decreasing the budget of NASA and Planned Parenthood and kissing up to the elite is the opposite of good. I think 2016 altogether was much better than 2015, as we also saw the conclusion of the Syrian war

.....yeah, about that...

You mean to tell me Nelson mandella died? That's impossible!

That's awesome, imo, that you're level-headed enough to notice the negatives in your life while still accepting the positives at the end. That being said, I still have to rebute you on the simple fact that a ton of stuff on that list is, was, has been, and will be achievable despite who is in office in the US. The Trump perspective that has glossed Americans and Earthlings alike is just that, a perspective.

Gotta take those glasses off every now and then to see things clearly. Like every single president before him, some good, at a minimum, will come form his presidency. But I wish every president to do great at a maximum.

Of course. It would be very hypocritical of me to wish Trump will fail. I would rather be surprised and see not only America, but the world excel under Trump. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

Thankfully, I'm human. I'm wrong all the time, and my predictions aren't supernatural. Instead of becoming like the nutjobs who said Obama will bring the antichrist, I'll probably sit on the sidelines and see what happens.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Guess you didn't get the memo that Trump will make America great again.

Maybe not in number but sure on negative impact for society.

The iconic people dying is just the icing on the c
ake.

You realize that more celebrities dying each year is not only a natural consequence of population growth and the diversification of entertainment, but that it will happen every subsequent year? If it happens every year is that going to negate every single year's positives?

And let's be honest, the things on that list are shaping the world NOW. Most of the celebrities who died were already long past their major contributions, or all of them, to society whether it was a song, album, movie, etc, In other words, if they had continued living their impact would have still been the same since it was done with.

By saying it is the icing of the cake I was trying to say is just a (hateful) detail compared to the real bad stuff, instead you took it as it was my main point, of course I know people dies, everybody knows it.

2016 is ending pretty crappy. I just lost my entire Laserdisc collection in a sewer backup and have been cleaning and moving stuff all day in a freezing house with all windows open while it's snowing outside. At least the restoration company could come in today, removing all the crap floating around, yet unfortunately also having to rip up part of the flooring.
Luckily my psvr is still OK so I can retreat into VR tonight and pretend not to smell the antiseptic cleaner drying from the wet concrete with 4 industrial fans blowing on it in the room next to me. At least it smells a lot better than it did this morning!

I could rant on how shit this year was because of the dying celebrities, but this year has been shitty on a personal level. Close losses, shitty job relations, among other things.

I'll say this, though... we have the first Puertorrican gold medalist at the Rio Olympics.

  • There's finally peace in Colombia

If I understand everything correctly, this one is false.

The president of Colombia (Juan Manuel Santos), made a deal with the FARC; this deal was so stupid I don't think anything comes close to it; the deal let all FARC members to go free without any trial, the government actually had to pay money to the FARC members for a few years (this meant increasing the taxes), and some other stupid things, but those are the main ones.

There was a vote to accept or reject this deal, and rightly so, the people voted to not accept the deal, so there's no peace yet; Santos is back to square one.

Just like Obama winning the Nobel price, giving the Nobel price to Santos is so idiotic I don't know where to begin.

Fair enough. The OP was more of a starting point for conversation, def. didn't know about the details on that one specifically.

So what's the real bad stuff that outweighs the list?

All this stuff is global and all.

But personally I enjoyed 2016 a bit more then most other years due to actions I have taken in the last two months of 2016. Hoping 2017 is even better!

2016 was pretty cool for me and frankly that's everything that counts. I switched Jobs, had to suffer 5 months through the terrible new job, enjoyed 4 months of unemployment and then found a really great job.
Played lots of fun games, started to learn Japanese again. Definitely better than last year.

Looking at the anime schedule for next year it might be able to top this one.
