Splatoon sneaks back into the top 20 with over 15k. Minecraft Wii U selling great and a nice boost for Mario Maker Wii U.

What are these PS4s owners doing with their consoles? Abysmal software numbers

PS4 retail software sales are above ps3 launch aligned. Factor in digital and it's higher by a healthy margin.  Ps4 gets waaaaaaaay more games then the competition.  Sales are naturally spread out over many titles and also digital sales on psn will retract from retail.  Especially when there's so many awesome deals.

I could see a lot of hardcore Japanese gamers having an EU and USA account to take advantage of their awesome digital sales.  I'd imagine Japan get good psn sales too.

I hope ps4 continues to improve, i just want good japanese support on the ps4, hope dragon quest xi skyrockets the ps4 sales( for me the most anticipated ps4 game)

Personally I think the 2017 line-up for the PS4 is much stronger than it was in 2016 mostly because cross-platform (PS3-PS4) titles are finally dead. So a lot of those people holding on to their PS3s will have to upgrade in 2017. Also 2017 is starting stronger than 2016 thanks to a better 2016 than 2015.

You know it's a tricky one.  Kerotan "The great predictor of our time"  called 2016 for the ps4 multiple times.  I always maintained a big 2016 for hardware.  One that would rival the ps3's biggest year.  I predicted ~1.8m for mediacreate.

Having modestly said all the above,  I must say I'm intrigued by 2017 vs 2016. We don't have a FFVX, P5 or Y6. We don't have a Pro launch,  slim launch and 2016 had a price cut.

Now how could 2017 compete with that?  Let's list what it has going for it.

Hardware:

1. Ps4 slim/pro selling for full year.  Better baseline early on perhaps?

2. Ps4 pro actually in stock meeting demand.

3. Psvr in stock and meeting demand could push more units.

4. Ps4/pro $50 price cut next fall.  Getting really close to that sweet spot.

Software:

RE7

Gran Turismo Sport

Hot shots golf

Nioh

RDR2

Battfront 2

New cod

Gravity Rush 2

DQ11, KH3, FF7 (I expect 1 and maybe 2 of these)

Gundam Vs

YS8

KH final chapter

KH collection

Nier

Another big point as you've said is less ps3 ports.

So basically many 100-300k titles with a few bigger ones.  Unannounced titles too for the end of the year.  Could be anything from builders 2 to a MH5 ps4 version announced.

2016 vs 2017 will be an interesting battle. Do you have figures for the ps3's next year after its peak of 1.8m?

So FF XV can still cross 1M
3DS numbers are crazy, almost quarter 1M in 1 week amazing, Mario maker is going where it should, it's a great game

The PS3 did 1.5m in 2010.

I want to add some to your list because I think the PS4's real selling point is simply the amount of 100k-300k games it has.

Ace Combat 7
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (that could do very low but it could also do decent considering how popular the series once was in Japan)
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Knack 2 (may not reach 100k XD)
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Valkyria Revolution
Horizon Zero Dawn
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

None of those are big hitters but they don't need to be to sell PS4s.

Nice 3DS hardware numbers, a good Mario boost too

Plus a few western titles which will no doubt surprise us.

So all year I've been cheering for the ps4 to prove the doubters wrong and beat the ps3's best year 1.8m. It happened.

Next year I cheer for 1.5m!
