Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 sales to trounce Xbox One by 20 million by end of 2016, says analyst

A shame that the lead is so big, PS4 is not twice as good but MS is to blame here essentially. Too many 180's, no clear messaging for a very long time, useless Kinect and an overpriced console made the PS4 even more successful.
Of course this is subjective but in terms of games, the PS4 is not that much better, especially if you take a look at which games most people buy on both consoles. It's a race of having the right mind share and there is no competing with Sony for this generation.

The amount of lead is NEVER a measure of how better it is over the competition.

Only leading by 20M? I am expecting PS4 to lead by 25M at the end of the year! :P

Hell, it could even be leading by 25m now...

It actually probably is. EA and Ubisoft estimated total console sales to be ~55m by the end of 2015. We know that the PS4 sold a total of ~36 million by the end of 2015, meaning that the XBO sold about 19 million. The XBO sold 11.12 million in the US by the end of 2015, so the US % is 58.5%. As of October NPD, the XBO sold ~13.34 million LTD. Assuming XBO US sales still encompass 58.5% of worldwide sales, total sales as of the end of October would be around 22.8 million units.

I think thats about right, for now.

If we knew numbers of both, I think Xbox One would be close to 25m, and we know the PS4 just crossed 50m.

Microsoft doesn't even try with the xbox anymore lol it probably doesn't even deserve the sales it has. Microsofts first party line up and exclusive are so bare bone its no wonder the console is losing. MS has the money, they could destroy Sony if they want, instead they are just so damn placid!

Thank goodness we have analysts, looking deep into their bubbling cauldrons, making bold proclamations like this. Without them, we might have to casually glance at recent numbers from the companies themselves to come up with a more accurate picture of the sales race. Yeah...all signs point to him being off by the millions. Good game buddy.

We don't know nothing about the Xbox sales, just that its probably down YOY.

The last number we got was shippment June-September, or March-June, where it did 1.1 million(shipped) Xbox 360+One against 3+ millions of the PS4.

This guy is overestimating the Xbox One's numbers. They probably finished 2015 with 17-18 millions. If the sales are flat, they sold a total of 24-26 millions this year.

It would have to sell 10+ millions in 2015 + 10 Millions in 2016 to get to those numbers.

The Xbox One started 2015 with 9-10 millions of units sold.

Nice to see Microsoft closing the gap.

That is mathematically impossible.
