Nonsense. Spirit tracks and a link between worlds were both great games.

Skyward sward was the only real dud and that still had many great things within it, even if the overall package was unenjoyable. I'm not a fan of phantom hourglass either but perhaps I need to give it another shot.

Well, I don't know. When we're getting into stuff like this, it's hard to say what is great and not because so many people have different opinions. I will say this... OOT may have been the last Zelda where the overall opinions at the time were pretty much universially great. MM, like you said, was sort of mixed due to the time constraints. WW was hated becasue of it being too easy, sailing and art style. SS was hated becasue of motion controls.

So yeah, OOT was the last Zelda to get universial praise. Hopefully, the new game can get closer to that than the last few games but with the way gamers are and how people just like to bitch these days, I doubt it. Somebody, somewhere, is going to bitch about something.

Someone is always going to bitch about something, that much is inevitable. People are already bitching about Breath of the Wild because "omg cartoony graphics again wtf nintendo" so we shouldn't get any hopes up.

That doesn't mean Ocarina of Time was the last great Zelda. The reason why people whine about each new entry is because they're all different, and people don't like change. People want every new Zelda to be exactly like Ocarina of Time but with shinier graphics - look at Twilight Princess for an example.

Twilight Princess is a great game. That, I won't deny. However, with how the game was conceived (mostly from fan feedback after The Wind Waker), it is very clear that it lacks identity. The game just follows in the footsteps of Ocarina of Time too much, and as a whole it just feels like fanservice with no much creative effort put into it. It lacks that uniqueness and magic that has been there in every other 3D Zelda, and it's what makes them good.

If you try to play these games objectively, it is actually pretty clear that Ocarina of Time is definitely, absolutely, 100% not the best 3D Zelda. It doesn't have the best dungeons (although it has some very good ones), it doesn't have the best bosses, it doesn't have the best soundtrack, it has by far the ugliest and most dated graphics, it has the worst story, and a serious pacing issue. The thing it does have going for it is, well... nostalgia. That's pretty much it. Anyone who ever tries to defend Ocarina of Time in this kind of debate always starts with "oh but the impact back in the day...", and that shows how dated the game is anyways.

I'm not saying Ocarina of Time isn't a great game, because that, it is - every 3D Zelda is, in fact - but I'm just trying to open up a more objective point of view. It is not the greatest game ever, nor is it the best Zelda game. Of course, everyone's entitled to their own taste, and it is justifiable to say it's your favorite game because of how mindblowing it was to you at the time... but that doesn't make it objectively better than the other entries.

think the reason some still hold OoT in such high regard even to this day is because it set a new standard for not just action-adventure games but games in general. You still see it in all-time great games list for what it was able to accomplish. It took what Super Mario 64, A Link to the Past, FFVII, and other great games before it and brought it to a new level.

Unfortunately, time hasn't been nice to OoT as games evolved over time (though the 3D remake has done wonders according to those who've played it). It's natural. We want games to continue evolving and finding new gameplay for us to experience. That's why Zelda is a unique franchise because while it remains an action-adventure fantasy game of a hero saving the day, new elements (and soon a complete revamp of the formula) have allowed Zelda to explore new opportunities for new experiences. Personally, I'm still amazed of what OoT accomplished when I look back at it and I appreciate playing it and wouldn't mind playing it over again. However, I'm not blind to realize that we've seen Zelda games that are just as great (if not better) since OoT.

The reason OOT is so head and shoulders above the rest of the 3D games is because of it's astronomical innovation and the foot print it left on the industry. Back when that game came out, it blew fucking minds. It was doing things other games hadn't. It was so far ahead of it's time that it took years for something to catch up. And that is the hardest thing to do when you're talking about creation. Making something that is the "first", without a pallet to follow, is always harder to do. The Zelda games that came after that one only had the task of refinment.

There hasn't been a Zelda released since that game that has been that far ahead of the current gaming industry and that's why OOT is the greatest.

I liked A link between world. Does that mean my opinion is wrong?

I disagree with your perception of Skyward Sword being a bad game, just like I disagree with your perception of the franchise being dead.

Of course since SS there has been very few exciting news for Zelda fans, but that has more to do with mismanagement, rather than lack of interest/bad games as you may suggest in the OP.

Is it silly for me who owns a wii, wii u, DS and a 3DS and my first proper zelda game will be BOTW?

Yes, you should get some practice in.

My thoughts exactly.

I think that Breath of the Wild is going to get 3 million illegal sales.

ILLEGAL sales?
